Clean cookie cuts come from one thing: a log that cannot move.
This is the Hud-Son Oscar 528 doing exactly that.
What size logs are you cutting most: under 16" or over 16"?

Episode 2. Before Tea, There Were Trees

The British didn’t just tax your tea. They claimed your trees.

The Revolution started over trees and turned into politics. The British Crown marked the largest white pines in colonial forests with the Broad Arrow, their claim on trees that stood on American land. Colonists were restricted from using some of the strongest timber growing on their own property.

What made the mast laws hit so hard was not just the symbol carved into the bark. It was the claim behind it. By the early 1700s the Crown treated large white pines as royal property even when they stood on private land, because those tall straight trees were prized for Royal Navy masts. New Hampshire teaching materials still point to that rule as one of the issues that pushed colonists closer to revolt.

There is a detail most people miss after independence. New Hampshire’s first state seal included a white pine and a bundle of arrows. That was not random decoration. The pine had already become a loaded symbol of land, labor, and control. Once the Crown was gone, the same tree that had been marked for the King could be reclaimed as part of the identity of a free state.

Americans fought and eventually won the right to do whatever they wanted with their own timber.

We haven’t forgotten.
Hud-Son. Mill on your own terms.
