🚨Community Alert from OpenCape🚨
If you've received a text claiming to be a "Final Notice" from the Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles threatening to suspend your license over unpaid traffic violations — DELETE IT. It's a scam.
I've received this message twice now, and it's clearly making the rounds across our region. Here's what you need to know:
🔴 Massachusetts doesn't even have a DMV. It's called the RMV. That's red flag number one.
🔴 The payment link — mass(period)gov-bern(period)cfd — is NOT a government website. Look closely: the actual domain is gov-bern(period)cfd, not mass(period)gov. It's designed to fool you at a glance.
🔴 No legitimate government agency will ever threaten you with license suspension, vehicle impoundment, and legal proceedings via text message and demand immediate payment through a random link.
🔴 If you get this message: don't click, don't reply, and don't panic. Forward it to 7726 (SPAM) to report it to your carrier, then delete it.
