This week's education segment, led by our Director, Paula Margosian Ankele, was a great reminder of what networking is really all about.

Our purpose isn't just to exchange business cards—it's to create value.

The best networkers listen for the moments that matter:
✨ "I'm struggling..."
✨ "I'm trying to..."
✨ Goals, challenges, passions, and opportunities.
Those are the cues that help us connect the right people. It's not about asking, "Who can help me?" It's about asking, "Who do I know that should meet this person?"
The strongest relationships are built through genuine personal connections, not just business conversations.

As Paula shared:
"People remember the person who introduced them to an opportunity long after they forget who handed them a business card."

Let's all strive to be the bridge that connects people. When we focus on creating value for others, our relationships grow—and so does our reputation.

This week, we had the opportunity to learn from Gary Bonick of Nies Insurance, and his years of experience in the insurance industry really showed. As an independent broker, Gary isn't limited to just one insurance company. Instead, he can compare multiple carriers to help clients find the right coverage—not simply the cheapest policy.

One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of having a personal umbrella policy. Gary shared that it's one of the most overlooked types of coverage, yet one of the most valuable. An umbrella policy provides an extra layer of liability protection, covers you worldwide, and can even help with defense costs beyond your underlying insurance policies. If you have assets to protect—or future income to safeguard—it's worth discussing with your insurance professional.

Gary also reminded us to review areas that are often underinsured, including water damage and valuable jewelry.

Thank you, Gary, for helping educate our group and reminding us that the right coverage today can make all the difference tomorrow. Your focus on protecting people—not just selling policies—is what sets you apart.

Great networking this morning, and a big thank you to Angela K. Denton, our Education Chair, for sharing some practical social media tips that every business owner can use.

One of my biggest takeaways was the "Engagement Sandwich." 🥪
👉 Spend about 30 minutes before your post engaging with others.
👉 Publish your post.
👉 Spend another 30 minutes after your post continuing to engage.
Why? Because social media is meant to be social. Relationships are built through conversations, not just content.

A few other gems:
✨ Choose the platform that fits you and your audience. The algorithms may work similarly, but the people on each platform are different.
✨ Don't just leave an emoji—ask questions, leave thoughtful comments, and create real conversations.
✨ If you're building a personal brand, make sure your profile is set up as a Digital Creator account.
✨ If you schedule your posts, don't forget to be present and engage around the time they go live.
✨ And if you're only posting a few times each week, consider adding a live video to help your audience connect with the real you.

Sometimes it's not about posting more—it's about connecting better. Thanks, Angela, for the great reminders that relationships will always be at the heart of social media.

This past week we had the opportunity to hear Jing Liang, MD speak and she had a very important message...

We've become so good at normalizing not feeling well that we start to believe it's just part of getting older or "our new normal."
But what if it isn't?

In today's information age, we're constantly bombarded with health advice from social media, podcasts, friends, and influencers. It can be overwhelming trying to figure out what's actually right for you.

Dr. Lang's approach is different. She doesn't stop at a diagnosis. She keeps asking the next question, digging deeper to uncover the root cause. She describes health like an onion—you have to keep peeling back the layers because a diagnosis is often just the beginning of the story.

If you've reached your tipping point... if you're wondering whether your symptoms are connected to your diet... or if you've tried restrictive plans that just aren't working, maybe it's time to take a deeper look.

Health isn't about chasing perfection. It's about finding balance and discovering what helps your body thrive.

Sometimes the most important question we can ask is, "What if I could actually feel better?”

One of the best parts about AM Spirit Business Connections, and in particular the Barrington chapter is the continuing education on networking we receive. This past week we continue discussion on attraction marketing – how to build your network without doing so much work. Thank you Angela K. Denton for sharing your expertise on engagement and how making that “sandwich” can dramatically boost connecting with your network.

This past week we were treated to a presentation bySteven P. Singleton of 360 Painting of Lake County. Steve shared the benefits of painting your home inside and out, how those benefits can continue to prevent damage, boost curb appeal, and even improve the quality of air in the interior. He shared with us that painting the exterior can:
✨ increase ROI of exterior by 55%
✨ increase ROI of interior by 100%

Exterior should be painted every 5 to 10 years
Interiors should be painted and updated every 3 to 7 years.

Also, the quality of paint you use can make a HUGE difference in how the results look as well as how long they wear. Definitely talk to Steve about the best brands to use. He also is an authority on painting mistakes to avoid.
