It’s not your fault, Amaz0n has spoiled us with its insane return policy.

But you know that meme that says, “When you shop small, the owner does a happy dance?” It’s true! Your purchases, (however small) keep their doors open.

You know what is also true? When you return an item, it can sometimes be hard to swallow - IF you don’t know these things:

Some ways to “return better” when shopping small.

1) Ask yourself if you really need to return it. If you are on the fence about an item, maybe weigh in the hardship it could cause the business you bought it from.

2) When possible, use the exchange option instead. This keeps the owner’s books the same - no money lost - so this is a better option for your small business friend.

3) If you have to return it, do it right away! Don’t wait to return that cashmere sweater towards the end of the season where spring items may be coming out and it would be harder for the owner to re-sell that sweater.

4) If you can’t find another item you like to replace what you are returning, let the owner know that you love their shop and plan to come back soon to see their new inventory.
