Brrrrrr. I just spoke with my daughter who is in Grinnell, Iowa (directly south of Marshalltown on the map) for school and she said she thought about bundling up to walk to the end of my parents' driveway to get yesterday's mail.......and then decided that wasn't a good idea. These temps make the 19 degree temps outside right now seem balmy. Brrrrrr.

A prolonged, rare cold event with dangerous, life threatening wind chills will prevail through late this week. The worst conditions are expected late Tuesday into Wednesday with the coldest air in over 20 years Wednesday morning across Iowa. Dangerous wind chills of 40 to 50 below will be widespread and common over much of the state with the lowest wind chill values over northern into east central Iowa.

These temperatures and wind chill values are potentially life-threatening. With wind chills of 40 degrees below zero, frostbite can occur on exposed skin within 10 minutes. Be ready to bring pets indoors. Vehicles left outdoors may have difficulty starting in the morning. This will be a prolonged period of bitterly cold air that will last from tonight through Friday morning.

How many of you have an older parent or know someone, a neighbor or a friend, who is starting to need a little help staying on top of the bills? Maybe their memory is a little less sharp?
