I began learning photography with film and in the darkroom from my father when I was 11, and have returned to it with full passion during the last ten years. I specialize in on location portrait photography, and have deep experience in crafting accent light and/or natural light to create high quality portraits that have lasting value and appeal. Maybe “natural light” photography should be re-named “optimal light” photography. Every portrait photographer loves the evening “golden hour” that can produce that warm, ethereal, soft light that is so appealing. But we can’t control the weather or the light, so what does a photographer do when mother nature does not co-operate? Even more importantly what does she/he do when the only time the customer has available does not line up with good weather or the “golden hour”, or when natural light does not even fit the subject or the mood? From bright cloudless days to rain to special settings - below are all examples of those situations where natural light was not at all optimal – with a few behind the scenes examples of how they were done. In each case on-location lighting or even more was used.
