A man had been working on a piece of farm equipment that was running when he became trapped in the equipment. Deputies responded to the farm in the town of Marshall and found the man dead.

Seneca Castle- Clifford L. Kunes Jr., age 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 18, 2026.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m. at the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church. In lieu of calling hours a celebration of life luncheon will be held following the memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Seneca Castle Fire Hall. Private burial will be in Whitney Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church, 2078 Buffalo St., Stanley, NY 14561. Please denote memorial fund in memory of Clifford Kunes.

Cliff was born on December 16, 1931 in Canandaigua to the late Clifford L. and Sarah (Yerkes) Kunes, Sr. In his youth Cliff was a member of 4-H. His love of 4-H continued through his life as he served for many years as a 4-H Leader. He was a lifelong farmer owning and operating Little Castle Farm in Seneca Castle and Castle Breeze Christmas Tree Farm. Cliff was an inventor and perfected the cabbage harvester, creating the Castle Harvester Company; he sold harvesters all across the United States, Canada and Poland. He previously served on the Town of Seneca Planning Board and the Ontario County Planning Board. Cliff was a member of the Ontario County Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension, Ontario County Fair Board and served 20 years as President of the Whitney Cemetery Association.

Cliff’s life centered around his faith and family. He was active in the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. Cliff was part of the United Methodist Men’s Group and the Gideons.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; children, Clifford L. “Casey” (Cynthia) Kunes, III, Michael A. (Cindy Goff) Kunes, Julie A. (David) Welch and Kathleen S. (David) Zastrow; step children, Ellen Brothers and Tom (Nora) Maycock; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sally Blackmer, Genevieve Seyfried, Jack Kunes, Ruth Kunes, Carol Kunes and Faith Kunes; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Cliff was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Jacqueline (Pratt) Kunes; and a step-son, Randy Maycock.
