🧠 Expertise can change lives. Entrepreneurship can expand its reach.

When Dr. Lauren Young, PT, DPT, NCS, founded NeuroElite Physical Therapy in Lafayette, she set out to bridge the gap between traditional neurological rehabilitation and the challenges patients face in their everyday lives.

Through NeuroElite, Dr. Young provides specialized care for individuals recovering from strokes, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries, with services designed to help patients regain independence and confidently navigate their homes and communities.

As she turned that vision into a business, Dr. Young worked with Ryan Devillier, Center Director of the LSBDC at UL Lafayette, and tapped into LSBDC consulting, business planning, training and marketing assistance to help build a strong foundation for growth.

Since launching NeuroElite in 2023, Dr. Young has grown her business, created jobs, increased sales — and even launched a second LLC.

“I felt fully supported when I started my first LLC, and since then I’ve launched a second, all with the continued guidance of Ryan and the Louisiana SBDC. What an invaluable resource for small business owners.”

What stands out about Dr. Young’s story is not only the business she has built, but the purpose behind it: using her expertise to expand access to specialized neurological rehabilitation and help people regain greater independence.

Congratulations, Dr. Young, on the continued growth of NeuroElite Physical Therapy. We’re proud to have played a part in your entrepreneurial journey.

📢 Louisiana Business Owners: Have You Experienced Damage from Tropical Storm Albert?

If your business was affected by flooding, wind damage, power outages, inventory loss, equipment damage, or other storm-related impacts, please take a few minutes to report your damages through the State of Louisiana's damage assessment portal.

Your report helps officials understand the full impact on businesses and communities and supports recovery and assistance efforts.

🔗 Report damage here: https://damage.la.gov/

Even if you are still assessing damages or have insurance claims pending, reporting is encouraged.

Please help spread the word to other businesses in affected areas.

Not every funding opportunity is looking for an idea. Some are looking for a solution that’s ready to move.

Louisiana’s new Rural Tech Catalyst Fund is designed for companies with healthcare-related products or services that can be deployed in rural communities within the next 180 days. That could include telehealth, healthcare access solutions, medical logistics, chronic disease support, digital health tools, and more.

This is not targeted toward businesses in the idea stage. As LED’s Josh Fleig explained:
“We need companies that have a product or service that can be deployed in the next 180 days.”

The program could provide:
• Grants or investments starting at $250,000
• Funding for pilots, expansion, and implementation
• Opportunities for companies working in Louisiana’s rural healthcare space

If your company already has a working solution and is ready to scale, this may be worth exploring quickly. Applications are now open, and the state is working on an accelerated timeline.

Learn more about the fund and eligibility here: https://rtcf.la.io/

For innovative businesses operating in healthcare, technology, logistics, or service delivery — especially those focused on solving real rural challenges — this is one to watch.

✨ Celebrating with Small Business Success! ✨

Meet Heather Degeyter — Owner of Bonne Vie Macarons and one of Lafayette's most beloved dessert destinations! 🍬💜

What started with a wobbly batch of birthday macarons in 2017 has grown into something truly special. Heather built a loyal following through word-of-mouth and social media before opening her first storefront in 2018 — a feminine, whimsical space filled with natural light, fresh flowers, and beautifully displayed desserts.

Along the way, Heather turned to the LSBDC at UL Lafayette for support — attending marketing workshops and working one-on-one with consultants on strategic planning, marketing, and loan package development. With LSBDC guidance, she secured financing, developed a strategic growth plan, and successfully transitioned into a new downtown Lafayette location in 2025. 📈🎉

Heather's story is a reminder that with the right support, a small idea can blossom into something extraordinary. 🌸
