"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

I've read that verse a hundred times. But there's a big difference between knowing it and living it.

For a long time I treated it like a nice thought rather than an invitation. I'd acknowledge it, maybe feel encouraged for a moment, and then go right back to carrying everything on my own. Can you relate?

I wrote about what it actually looks like to take Jesus up on his invitation to "come to him."

If you've been running on empty, this one's for you. Link in the comments. 👇

One of the biggest mistakes married business owners make?

Trying to lead the same part of the business.

Two CEOs. Two leaders driving the same bus.

That creates confusion for your team and frustration for each other.

Jim's latest article shares lessons on leadership, marriage, and building a business together.

Business owner couples don’t need to agree on everything, but they must agree on leadership roles. Learn how married business partners can avoid confusion and lead effectively together.

Sue and I have been married nearly 38 years and business partners for almost two decades.

Do we agree on everything? Absolutely not.

But one thing business owner couples MUST agree on is leadership roles. Two people can't sit in the same seat on the bus.
Healthy disagreement is fine. Confused leadership is not.

If you own a business with your spouse, clarity matters. For your staff, your culture, and your future.

I wrote about what Sue and I have learned building a business together in my latest article.

If you’ve ever found it hard to step back, trust your team, or truly surrender your plans to God, you’re not alone.

A simple moment in front of a blank canvas reminded me what can happen when we loosen our grip, stop trying to control everything, and start trusting Him instead.

Struggling with putting god first in your business? Discover how faith-driven leadership, trusting the Holy Spirit, and releasing control can lead to real growth.

It’s easy to drift.

In the middle of busy days, stress, and deadlines, it doesn’t take much to lose sight of why we do what we do.

But this reminder matters:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”

Not just when it’s easy.
Not just when you feel like it.
All of it.

If you’ve felt that drift lately, you’re not alone.
This might be your reset.

Learn how serving god in all you do shapes your work, strengthens integrity, and keeps your faith grounded every day.

Leadership doesn’t always look the way we imagined it would.

It’s not just vision and momentum. It’s pressure, responsibility, and the quiet weight of being the one others look to, even when you’re not sure you have the answers yourself.

And sometimes, it’s that moment alone at the end of the day, wondering if you’re really cut out for it.

If that feels familiar, you’re not the only one.

Take a few minutes to read it. It might put words to something you’ve been trying to make sense of.

Somewhere along the way, I realized the attitude problem I was dealing with at work… was me.

Not the difficult colleague. Not the underperformer I was covering for. Me.

I had let the gap between my expectations and other people's reality turn into low-grade resentment. And I was leading from that frustration without even realizing it.

High performers, this one's for us. The drive that makes us good is the same thing that can make us really hard to be around when we're not keeping it in check.

Jim wrote more about this one — link in the comments. Worth a read if you manage people.

I want to tell you about Josh.

Josh worked for me when I was running a sales region. Customers loved him. He was reliable, loyal, and knew his stuff. We trusted him with a couple of the biggest accounts we had.

He wasn’t perfect. Presentations weren’t his strength. So his manager and I stepped in where needed. We joined meetings. We cleaned up decks. It wasn’t textbook, but it worked.

For a long time, it worked.

Then something shifted. Not with the customer. They were still happy. But internally, things started to wear down. His manager was getting frustrated. I noticed my attitude changing too. Instead of being glad to see him, I found myself thinking, what now?

Josh hadn’t changed. I had.

I had to face something I didn’t like. I was expecting Josh to be more like me. And when he kept being himself, I stopped seeing what he did well. I focused on what he didn’t do well. I pulled his manager into that mindset, and before long the tension was everywhere.

Here’s the truth. Josh was still doing a great job. Those same big accounts were still in good hands years later. We eventually got back on track. Not because Josh changed, but because we did. We adjusted our perspective and recognized what was already working.

I’ve had a lot of “Josh” moments over the years. Most leaders have.

High performers have to guard their mindset. The same drive that helps you win can also make you overly critical if you’re not paying attention.

So let me ask you.

Who’s your Josh right now?
