If you’re a business owner and see a profit when you look at your Profit & Loss, that’s great, but it’s only part of the picture. Enter, the oh-so-confusing 🫣Balance Sheet!

✨Most business owners check their Profit & Loss… but skip the Balance Sheet. Your Balance Sheet is simply a snapshot of your business on one specific day.

✨Think of it like a financial photo:

• What you own = cash, equipment, inventory
• What you owe = loans, credit cards, bills
• What’s left = your equity (your ownership)

✨Your P&L tells the story of how you’re doing over time…

This is from 2024, but here's a reminder that the June 15th deadline for paying your self employment tax estimates is quickly approaching!

📣🗂 Reminder for business owners or self-employed❗️If you are subject to paying self-employment tax estimates throughout the year, don’t forget to pay your 2nd installment of SE tax estimates before June 15th 🗓 (for both federal and state, if your state requires it. Minnesota does.)

The due dates for SE taxes are: April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15 of the following year.

🔸TIP: Set aside an appropriate % of your revenue (25-30% for most is sufficient) through an auto-transfer into into a high-yield savings account. Then it doesn't hurt *quite* as much having to make those payments, and you don't have to think about it, the money is already there! (And it grows a little bit over time if you keep some in there).

🏖 It’s almost the end of JUNE! ☀️ We're already half way through 2024! It’s a great time to check in with your accountant or CPA on your business financials (you do have those, don’t you?🧐) as you still have time to make improvements and changes to your business before the year is up. A little financial planning goes a long way to pay less in taxes and keep more of your hard-earned revenue. 💲

A quick tip to help you better your business:

📃 Keep ALL your business receipts. Better yet – organize them and keep them digitally or even in your accounting software. Did you know you can attach digital receipts right to transactions in QuickBooks Online?
📎 Reasons for keeping receipts: It’s a part of good record keeping, but it’s also required in order to be deducted as business expense.
💸 If your business is audited and you don’t have documentation or a receipt to back up the expense – they may very well exclude it from your allowable deductions and you could end up owing $$$ back.

Receipt-keeping doesn't have to be hard, but making this small change in your business is worth it in more ways than one!
