At Lewis Brothers Manufacturing, we’ve spent decades refining the tools that help poultry producers and commercial operators manage litter more efficiently and profitably. Our product development has always prioritized making the grower more efficient and building equipment that stands up to the test time and of the harsh conditions of poultry houses. Increasing prevalence of commercial cleanout operations has created a need to be in and out of farms more quickly to maximize efficiency and amount of litter moved. Additionally, new house construction for many integrators is trending towards larger houses with higher capacity for birds. As a result of these developments, we are proud to unveil the latest evolution in poultry house cleanout: the DB-7 Lewis Poultry Housekeeper — our most powerful, highest-capacity model yet.

The DB-7 is designed with 35% more capacity than our previous largest models — the DB-2 and DB-4. The DB-7 boasts a holding capacity of 210 cubic feet, this machine minimizes downtime and maximizes productivity, allowing the operator to haul more material per pass. Additionally, we’ve outfitted the DB-7 with high-capacity 2000 series motors, delivering the torque and performance needed to move the increased load without sacrificing speed. These motors make it possible to move more litter in the same amount of time, helping you finish jobs faster and more efficiently.

To support the additional load, we’ve upgraded key structural components. Reinforced leveling bars now feature added steel for enhanced strength and durability. Solid one-piece tires are engineered to handle the increased weight of the machine without failure or deformation over time. The DB-7 features a 7-foot-wide conveyor, reducing the number of required passes in a standard 40' x 500' poultry house from six to just four. This means fewer trips, less fuel, less wear on your equipment, and most importantly — less time spent inside the house.

Whether you’re a commercial cleanout contractor or a poultry grower with multiple houses, the DB-7 is built to meet your demands. Its high-capacity design is optimized for operations that need to move more material, more quickly, without sacrificing quality or reliability. Recommended for use with tractors 90 HP and up to safely and effectively handle the added weight and performance capabilities of the DB-7.

The DB-7 is the next-generation solution for serious cleanout operations. More power. More capacity. Fewer passes. Less time. Greater efficiency. It’s a step forward in capability and we are convinced it will serve growers well.

TOP MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR POULTRY EQUIPMENT --

1. Don't overgrease your bearings. Blowing out the seal on your bearings by overgreasing allows debris to get inside the bearing and generate friction, heat, and wear. Ensuring that your bearings have the proper amount of grease will ensure they last longer.

2. Keep your chains lubricated with a spent oil lubricant, especially the #60 roller chain on Housekeepers and Dumb Body machines

3. Clean litter off your machine after each use. Litter is extremely corrosive and can lead to degredation of even the toughest steel components if left on the machine for long periods of time.

4. Give special attention to caring for your components that see the most vigorous contact with litter material, such as the lower loading conveyor shaft and cylinder reel shaft.

Keeping these tips in mind will ensure your equipment stands the test of time!

Windrowing is one of the most thoroughly scientifically researched and beneficial litter management processes that growers have in their arsenal. Scientific studies have shown again and again the positive health benefits to broilers associated with windrowing. Just to name a few, windrowing helps with decreased darkling beetle populations, lower microbial pathogen load in litter (E. coli, clostridium, salmonella, etc.), dries litter and thereby improves living conditions of birds, and facilitates litter reuse and saves the grower money on bedding material costs. If your layout time allows, consider windrowing in your litter management strategy!

Decaking is one of the best ways to ensure healthy litter and healthier flocks by reducing moisture content in litter. Moisture retention is the enemy inside poulty houses because it leads to ammonia buildup and harmful micrbobial growth. Keep your litter in good shape and your birds will thank you!
