Great Podcast from a couple months ago. Many good points about the looming disaster for accounting firms who do not adapt with technology. I agree with all his tactical recommendations on how to price, etc.

However, it is hard for me to believe the accounting firms can keep charging the same amount that their clients were paying (under an inefficient and labor-intensive accounting process) in perpetuity. Eventually that first contract will end. All the efficiencies will be built into the accounting systems and there will be another firm that will massively undercut them on price...IF you don’t expand the scope of what the client is getting. Adding historical data analytics is nice, but still not enough.

Having this accurate, timely, sufficiently detailed financial (and non-financial) data serves as the foundation of a budgeting and forecasting process; which is necessary for any organization that is serious about making better decisions.

What is going to happen? How are we going to make it happen? These are the important discussion points that firms need to have once they have automated the bean-counting.
