I can remember sitting in Mrs. Metivier’s class when the teachers found out we had been attacked. Being in 5th grade, they knew the gravity of the situation and gave us the option to watch what was happening live. Those who didn’t want to watch were allowed to go out to recess while many of us stayed. I remember watching the second plane hit the tower and while I didn’t fully grasp what was happening, I knew it was very very bad. One of my classmates was frozen and began hysterically crying. He explained that his dad was a pilot and was supposed to be flying either into or out of NYC that morning. Seeing him like that was surreal and brought something happening 800mj away to the desk beside me. Thankfully, he made contact with his father and he was not involved.
25 years later, I still remember that day and will never forget those who rushed in to help and the lives lost.
