COMMUNITY WIDE REQUEST - SUPPORT AN AMERICAN HERO!
Please join multiple agencies, community groups, and citizens as we welcome home CPL Orestus Marion Stewart, US Army, as his remains are returned to Jasper on Wednesday, May 20th at around 10:15am.
CPL Stewart went missing in action on August 11, 1950 in Korea while serving with the U.S. Army. His remains have been recovered, positively identified, and are being returned to his home in Jasper County, his final resting place.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 in Magnolia Springs, Texas.
PLEASE join the greater Jasper community as we welcome home CPL Stewart by lining the streets in red, white, and blue along the procession route. The procession should be nearing Jasper around 10:15-10:30am tomorrow morning, so please start lining up by 10am, starting at Lowe's Home Improvement on US Highway 190 to US 96 and then north to Martin Luther King Boulevard.
VFW Post 6380 - Jasper, TX will have a limited number of flags for free available tomorrow starting at 9am at the Post at 251 North Main Street, donated courtesy of Lowe's Home Improvement.
The Jasper Texas Volunteer Fire Department will have Tower 1 on display in the AutoZone parking lot with the US flag displayed.
A law enforcement es**rt will lead the procession from Bush Intercontinental Airport to Jasper, with the support of the US Army. Corporal Stewart's remains are entrusted to Coleman's Mortuary in Jasper, who will be transporting him.
Additional procession support will be supplied from Bush Intercontinental to Jasper by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office - TX, Jasper VFD, and Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Dept.
Jasper Police Department will handle the procession and traffic control once it reaches the City of Jasper, Jasper Texas.
Additional patriotic displays will take place along the entire route, along US Highway 59 starting in Cleveland to Livingston, and then along US Highway 190 from Livingston to Woodville and Dam B, ending in Jasper.
