Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, honoring the day in 1865 when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. This day is a reminder of delayed justice, but also of unmatched resilience.

As we reflect on this freedom, we also acknowledge the ongoing fight for equity, especially for Black led nonprofit organizations. According to The Giving Gap’s 2022 report, Black nonprofits often receive less funding despite being deeply rooted in community healing and impact. (Source: nonprofitpro.com)

Donors don’t give to programs. They give to people. You can have the most well-thought-out initiative in the world, but if your audience can’t see the real lives you’re impacting, they’ll scroll right past it.

Research shows storytelling can increase donations by over 60% because people connect emotionally, not administratively. So instead of saying “We serve women recovering from domestic violence,” try “Last month, we helped Monica find safety and peace after years of abuse.” That’s what moves hearts.
