Direct Farm Ownership loans offer up to 100% financing to purchase a farm or ranch, make capital improvements, promote soil and water conservation and protection, and pay closing costs. These loans can include joint financing and down payment loans. The maximum loan amount for regular and joint financing is $600,000 with a maximum term of 40 years. For down payment, the maximum loan amount is $300,150 with a maximum term of 20 years. Term of a Microloan is currently 25 years for up to $50,000. August interest rates are 5.625% for regular, 3.625% for joint, and 1.625% for down payment assistance.

Direct Operating loans can be used for costs associated with reorganizing a farm to improve profitability such as expanding or changing your operation, purchasing livestock, purchasing equipment, minor improvements to buildings, land and water development, loan closing and borrower training costs, annual farm operating expenses such as feed, seed, fertilizer, cash rent, and to refinance certain farm related debts excluding real estate. The direct operating loans have a maximum loan amount of $400,000 with a maximum term of 7 years. The interest rate for August is 5.375%.

USDA is accepting offers for more than 2.2 million acres from agricultural producers and private landowners through this year’s Grassland, General, and Continuous CRP signups. With these accepted acres, enrollment is very near the 27 million CRP acreage cap. But you can still participate in CRP through the Continuous CRP signup, which is ongoing.
