Our Story
My family’s adventure in Bedford, VA started almost two years ago. From the day we moved to this sweet little town I had my eye on the 1834 Cottage. I would find myself passing by, dreaming of the shop I would have, if only it were mine. I began to pass and say the words “You should be mine.” It became a running joke. One day just a few months ago I was driving with a friend, and as we passed the cottage I spoke the words I always did, and my friend said, ”What did you say?” I told her and we kind of batted around ideas. Little did I know there was a greater fate on the horizon. I believe it was the very next day that I received a phone call from my friend saying, “You aren’t going to believe this, but the current renter of the cottage is in my office and said she is moving out in a few months.” I about died! It was at that moment I fell down the rabbit hole.
Every day since has been motion and emotion. The original idea for the shop has morphed and changed over the last few months. We have spent countless hours carefully curating a beautifully interesting inventory, all the while building, painting, and staining fixtures, walls, and displays. We want our shop to feel cozy and warm. We want to welcome you in and introduce ourselves, because this shop is so much more than a business opportunity. It’s a way for our family to continue to put down roots in a town we have become quite fond of. We look forward to not just serving you, but getting to know you!
Our shop has partnered with some great companies doing great things! We will carry Fair Trade goods from Ten Thousand Villages and Basha Boutique. Each handmade item from these companies is truly one of a kind. They help support women, and give them dignified work in communities where that isn’t the norm. This is a beautiful way for a small community to help make a difference in the bigger picture.
In order to bring to you all a beautiful and layered home + garden + lifestyle inventory we will have a mix of items vintage and new, locally and globally handmade, plus PLANTS and more! Layering plants into a homes design not only helps to promote clean air, but adds a warm textural element that brings a natural sense of balance. Be sure to visit our DIY Terrarium Bar! You can pick your plant or plants, container, and adorn your terrarium with an interesting trinket that speaks to you. Making each terrarium unique. Just the way we like it. We also plan to launch terrarium and make it take it workshops monthly, so be sure to always check our social media for upcoming events. To my core I believe our home to be our personal sanctuary. Our safe place from the outside world. It should reflect the things that speak to our hearts as individuals and inspire those that dwell within. We want to give you unique options to bring into your home to help tell your story.
