We got back to moving dirt again this past Friday. There were a few places that frost still held big chunks of soil together, but this is pretty early to expect entirely loose soil. We will wait a few days before compacting to give those frosty chunks a chance to thaw out.
Pictured here is a temporary service road allowing access to haul soil to a fill site. This will lead to finishing stages around a construction pad for a new barn.

Every now & then progress stops for a repair. By the looks of the previous weld, it was very dirty, or the previous welder was out of gas.
Either way, i will grind that mess out and lay a clean weld in, then it will be cleaned up and back in service before noon today.

There’s a few more pictures of that access road. It was a bit lengthy. We had quite a bit of cut & fill which kept the padfoot roller busy. We used the RTK guidance on the D7 dozer in some places, other places we ran freestyle. We needed to follow a surveyed line, so the fill areas required careful calculation so as to include the slope created along the sides of the fill.

This was a rough cut during the beginning of a project building an access road. Later in the project we removed thousands of yards of dirt and built ditches along both sides, then came the rock.
We will provide ongoing maintenance on this access road for another year to maintain and improve the surface as rock moves around on the road surface.
Hydroseed is booked for this spring to stabilize loose soil on the slopes along the sides where the hills were cut.
Side note: We cut this entirely with the D7 dozer but the padfoot compactor is pictured here because we were using it to compact fill in the low area behind the machine (not pictured).

A few highlights here on a residential storm drain project. We had hundreds of feet of sewer pipe, 5 custom built storm water boxes, and a fair bit of time in this project. All rain gutters, garage floor drains, sump pit discharge, and storm water runoff had to be controlled. We designed, built, and installed a system to prevent water erosion on this property. It was a mid-summer project 2025. This far, it has worked flawlessly.
