Cameron Yoe High School and Texas A&M graduate Rick Joseph Fuentes, 26, was killed Sunday in a crash while responding to a fire with the Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department

Fuentes also served as a science teacher and coach at Lamar Middle School in Temple

🚒🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026! 🔥🚒

What an amazing week of fire prevention, education and fun!

This week, the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department had the pleasure of visiting local schools and daycares to spend time with some of the youngest members of our community! We enjoyed talking with the kids about the importance of fire safety, teaching them ways to stay safe and answering all of their wonderful questions! This year, we placed a special focus on lithium-ion battery safety.
From tablets and cell phones to scooters, toys, and other rechargeable devices, lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives. We talked about the importance of using batteries safely, recognizing warning signs of a damaged or overheating battery and why charging devices properly matters. Of course, we also reminded our young friends about smoke alarms and what to do if there is ever a fire.

Fire prevention is about more than just putting out fires. It is about preventing them before the they ever start! One of the most rewarding parts of being a firefighter is getting the opportunity to educate our children. If even one child takes something they learned this week home and shares it with their family, we know we have made a difference.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the schools, daycares, teachers and staff who welcomed us this week! And an even bigger thank you to all the kiddos for their excitement, curiosity, smiles and enthusiasm! We love serving our community,m but we love teaching the next generation how to stay safe even more!

📍 300 block of North Washington Street
⏰ Street closure: 4:00 p.m.–midnight

Please use alternate routes, follow posted barricades, and watch for pedestrians. Closure hours include time for event setup and cleanup.
