📡 At 719 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Milford Mill, or near Pikesville, moving east at 45 mph.

* This dangerous storm will be near... Baltimore, Pikesville, Cockeysville, Towson, Parkville, Carney, Lochearn, Mays Chapel, Timonium, and Hampton around 725 PM EDT. Perry Hall, Rosedale, Rossville, and White Marsh around 730 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Brooklandville, Garrison, Mcdonogh, Fullerton, Ruxton, Lutherville, Loch Raven Village, Eudowood, Riderwood, and Loch Raven.

IMPACT...For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is likely.

As a major winter storm moves across the U.S., now is a smart time to stay aware of how snow and ice can impact your roof system.

Heavy snow and ice don’t always cause roof problems - they often expose existing weaknesses from prior wind, hail, or wind-driven rain events.

If your roof hasn’t been professionally inspected since the last major storm season, increased awareness is especially important.

🔍 What to Watch During & After Snowfall

Top-floor ceilings
Look for faint brown or yellow water marks - especially along corners, edges, and where ceilings meet exterior walls.

Water doesn’t always appear at the source
Snow melt can enter in one area and travel along rafters or framing before becoming visible in a different room.

Attics (if safely accessible)
Damp insulation, dark staining on wood, frost on nails, or musty odors can indicate hidden moisture.

Roof edges & gutters
Large icicles or ice buildup may signal ice dams, which can push water beneath roofing materials.

Exterior visual check (from the ground)
Missing shingles, lifted flashing, clogged or frozen gutters, or sagging rooflines should be addressed promptly.

Heavy snow load
Flat and low-slope roofs are especially vulnerable. Unusual creaking or popping sounds inside the structure should not be ignored.

• Are you advising me to file a claim or telling me what’s covered under my policy?
(Only licensed professionals should discuss policy terms. Contractors should focus on assessing and documenting damage.)
• For hail claims:
• Do you perform a proper “test square” inspection and provide photo documentation?
• For wind claims:
• Can you show clear photo evidence of missing, creased, or displaced shingles?
• Do you discuss potential out-of-pocket costs beyond my deductible?
(Like code-required upgrades or sheathing replacement.)
• Do you offer roofing system upgrades with extended warranties for long-term value?
• Do you have a professional process for properly documenting all incurred costs?
