The City of Belfast is moving forward with the engineering phase of a proposed $2 million infrastructure project affecting portions of Congress and Salmond Streets.
Plans being considered include drainage and sewer improvements, sidewalks or a multi-use path, pedestrian safety improvements, and bicycle lanes. The final design has not yet been completed.
What parts of the proposal do you support? What concerns do you have, and what would you change?
This post is not intended to support or oppose the project. I’m simply interested in hearing how local residents feel.
Please keep the conversation respectful and constructive.

Local Belfast beach water update:
According to the Maine Healthy Beaches / Maine DEP status page, City Park is currently listed with an Elevated Bacteria Advisory, while Heritage Park is listed as No Active Advisory.
This is not meant to alarm anyone — just a respectful local heads-up, especially for families, swimmers, pet owners, and anyone using the waterfront. Beach water conditions can change, especially after heavy rain, so it’s always best to check the latest status before swimming or letting kids or pets go into the water.
For the most current updates, use the official Maine Healthy Beaches status page here:

Great weekend to be in Belfast. Arts in the Park is always a nice reminder of how much local talent and community we have here on the coast. Hope everyone has a great weekend at the waterfront. Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce

Arts in the Park is almost here!

One of my favorite summer events is just around the corner, and I’m so excited to be returning as an artisan at the annual Arts in the Park on the beautiful Belfast waterfront.

Just look at this amazing aerial view—a sea of white canopies stretching across the park, filled with talented artists, makers, and craftspeople from all over Maine. It’s always such a wonderful weekend of creativity, community, and coastal Maine charm.

I’ll be there with my small-batch pepper jellies, including my newest HERON Pepper Jelly, along with the seasonal favorite, Strawberry Rhubarb!

If you’re planning a visit to Belfast this weekend, be sure to stroll the waterfront, enjoy the art, and stop by my booth to say hello and sample some pepper jelly!

Looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new friends. ❤️ Arts in the Park - Belfast, Maine

Storing a Vehicle for a While? Don’t Just Start It and Let It Idle.

With summer here, a lot of people are opening camps, parking seasonal vehicles, traveling, or leaving vehicles sitting longer than usual.

A common mistake is thinking the best thing to do is start the vehicle once in a while and let it idle.

That can actually cause more problems than it solves, especially with newer vehicles that have lots of electronics.

If a vehicle is going to sit for a while, a better plan is:

• Fill the gas tank almost full
• Add a good fuel stabilizer if it will sit for an extended time
• Drive it briefly after adding stabilizer so it gets through the fuel system
• Hook up a smart battery maintainer made for the correct battery type
• Avoid starting it just to let it idle
• Add a little extra tire pressure, without going over the tire’s max PSI
• Leave the parking brake off if the vehicle is safely parked
• Keep key fobs away from the vehicle so the electronics don’t keep waking up
• Check the owner’s manual because every vehicle is a little different

Modern vehicles can slowly drain the battery while sitting, and a short idle may not recharge it enough. A little preparation can save a lot of trouble later.

Hope this helps someone avoid an expensive lesson.
