We have all experienced so many transitions over the last year, many have been difficult to navigate. Some of us have been isolated from our families and friends. Some of us have experienced employment and housing instability. Some of us have even experienced loss of loved ones. On top of this, we have been enduring the trauma caused by the continued police brutality against Black and Brown communities. Without proper mental health support and/or care, this weight can start to feel too heavy to bear. We urge you to seek help when necessary. Please visit the link in our bio to access resources that can support your mental health journey. And remember, we are in this together.

May is mental health awareness month! More than 50% of US adults will need mental health treatment at some point in their lives, and 1/25 are currently living with a serious mental illness. Still, there is mental health stigma that discourages people from getting the help they need and deserve. This is particularly true for communities of color. Join us this week as we strive to break the stigma of mental health by bringing awareness and advocate for those living with mental illnesses.

You're invited to Change Happens!'s HYPE 2.0 Virtual Teen Summit! The theme for the 2020 Summit: D.R.I.P: Directing your Route to Individual Potential! Our featured Keynote speaker is none other than 16-year old CEO of Sienna Sauce, Tyla-Simone Crayton!

With this summit, Change Happens! aims to create a space for building success amongst our students, parents, teachers, social workers, juvenile justice administrators, and adults who work with youth. The Teen summit consists of breakout sessions focused on healthy relationships, money management, entrepreneurship, S.T.E.M, mental health, and college preparation. Parents will benefit from two sessions conducted by Mr. Matthew Barnes (www.educationgame.com) on educational success. The other adults will benefit from sessions that aim to raise education and racial equity through an implicit bias training led by Planting SEEDS and an expert panel discussion. This event is free to all students aged 14-19. We invite you to join us in a day filled with resources, lively sessions, and raffle giveaways!

๐ŸŒฟ Happy Monday!

In honor of the new week, we have a challenge for you. We dare you to stand in your power everyday this week.

What does standing in your power even mean? Standing in your power means knowing who you are and what youโ€™re capable of. It means not allowing anyone else to write your story for you. It means putting your gifts to work for your good.

Yes, itโ€™s easier said than done. Especially for those of us who are often told that we are not good enough or we do not belong. But guess what? We are not giving power to their words; they will not cause doubt to creep into our minds.

We deserve to take up space with our bodies and our words. So stretch, and talk, and laugh, and be powerful this week.

Remember who you are, and then, never forget. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฟ We feel it imperative to highlight individuals who push boundaries and demand a seat at the table, but also those who are not afraid to create and bring people to a new table. Michelle is one of those people. She saw the need for a African American led Marketing Association, so she created one. We honor her bravery and steadfastness...

๐ŸŒฟ People often stay quiet when they witness systems of oppression, especially when it is perpetrated by someone they hold dear. They may remain quiet because they are afraid of being ignored or that their words wonโ€™t change minds. They may also remain quiet to preserve the relationship, or avoid awkwardness or argument. However, silencing ones self is not only a form of self-repression, but a perpetuation of bigotry and discrimination. Itโ€™s imperative that we empower ourself to have these tough conversations by learning to communicate clearly and effectively. We must call racism, sexism, ageism, etc. by their names, and work to create a world intolerant of oppression in any form and at every level. ๐ŸŒฟ
