There have been a lot of recent headlines regarding dyed diesel for on-highway use. For a Pennsylvania-specific update on this issue, please read the article titled Industry Guidance on Fuel Costs, Dyed Diesel, and Ongoing Advocacy in today's edition of the Ticker from the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association.

Currently, using dyed fuel in on-road vehicles remains illegal in Pennsylvania.

In 2004 the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry instituted a new harvest allocation model that they developed with the help of Penn State. The model helps sustainably optimize the scheduling of timber harvests across the state's 2.2 million-acre state forest system. It acts like a long-term budget, making sure the Bureau of Forestry harvests wood at a pace that keeps the forest healthy, protects wildlife, feeds our forest products industry, and ensures plenty of trees remain for future generations - all requirements that the Bureau of Forestry continually meets in order to maintain its Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification.

The Bureau of Forestry just recently harvested its billionth board foot of timber under this sustainable allocation tool (picture a 12" wide x 1" thick board that circles the earth nearly 8 times), and today we were there to celebrate with the Bureau and many other forest sector stakeholders as it sawed that timber on the historic steam-powered circular sawmill at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Potter County.

NOTICE: New regulations require ALL state game lands users NOT engaged in hunting, trapping, or fishing to wear fluorescent orange from October 1 through January 31.

Have you heard about the changes this year?

New regulations require ALL state game lands users NOT engaged in hunting, trapping, or fishing to wear fluorescent orange from October 1 through January 31.

Users are required to wear a minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on head, chest, and back combined OR a fluorescent orange hat.

Here are some extra tips for enjoying state game lands this fall:

- If you have a pet with you, we highly recommend a vest, harness, leash, or bandana.

- Backpacks can limit your 360 degrees of visibility. Add a bandana or covering to your backpack to ensure you're seen.

- Even if you’re horseback riding, you’re REQUIRED to meet orange requirements, regardless of safety equipment being worn. It’s suggested to have orange on your horse as well.

Our goal is to ensure ALL users, hunters and non-hunters alike, are as safe as possible on state game lands 365 days a year!
