“Be a creator, not a consumer.” One of the hardest things to do in
this busy online space, is to stay in your own lane. Even if we are
not by nature competitive (or maybe we are), the “glam” of social
media can creep into our lives and make us feel inadequate. The pull
to wonder why someone else is doing so well, compared to us, can be
incredibly tempting.
Before we know it, we are holding ourselves up to other people’s
standards and other people’s accomplishment that we have no clue
about.
It can also be tempting to think that everyone else has it together,
that everyone else is friends and we are outsiders, that those things
came easy to other people and not to us….the victim mindset sets
in…and self-sabotage follows.
Here’s how to stop this vicious cycle:
Success as a business owner – especially as a female (since that’s the
only perspective I know) - is deeply tied to knowing yourself and to
knowing what you want, who you are and WHY.
And success is an inside job of keeping your mind on the right
priorities: you and your family and the ultimate vision for your life.
One of the most important things you can do every day is dedicate some
quiet time to listen to yourself.
Say no to all the things and people vying for your attention that
don’t deserve it.
Whether it is meditation, prayer or journaling or a quiet walk, you
need some quiet time to reflect on who YOU are. To hear that tiny
voice inside your head that says (KNOWS!) that you are destined for
more.
And that little voice is called your True North Star.
So often goal setting fails because we do not have a deep guiding
purpose for why we are doing “all the things” in the world. We haven’t
visualized who we want to be and – more importantly – how we want to
feel.
When we cultivate the practice of introspection, suddenly you don’t
want what she has, you want what you want and you are guided by your
own pursuits.
This will unleash you the space to become a creator and not a
consumer. Suddenly you make the rules of your inputs, of the stories
you want to hear, and what you focus your energy on.
Cultivating and preserving this energy of focus and single-minded
determination towards your goal is one of the main determinants of
whether or not you’ll get it. So tell me now: what do YOU want for
your life. When is the last time you listened to your voice and
identified your True North Star?
