"A strong Seattle is integral to a strong Bellevue, and our fates are forever intertwined."

Joe Fain opened with that line at West Side Story, and the packed room at W Bellevue got the conversation to match. Joe Nguyen, Jon Scholes, and Tiffini Connell didn't dodge the hard stuff: the Jumpstart tax, $10 billion in lost downtown Seattle office value, and what it takes to keep employers on this side of the country.

But there was plenty of good news too. Pioneer Square is coming back, the waterfront is transformed, and the World Cup kicks off in 24 days with 750,000 visitors on the way.

Add a silent auction, a live auction, and a Dessert Dash, and it's a night worth dressing up for (glitzy-and-glammy encouraged).

Nearly one in four Washington employers are now considering moving their business out of state. That is the headline from the Association of Washington Business's spring 2026 survey of more than 400 employers, released this week. 24% are weighing relocation, up from 17% in Q4 and roughly 8% last winter. 18% are actively developing a relocation plan. 7% already have an out-of-state location secured. 17% report being contacted directly by economic development officials from other states. And 55% of business leaders say they are weighing a move of their personal residence, too.

We are interested in keeping employers, jobs, and investment in Washington. That work runs through Policy Council, through our coalition partners statewide, and through every conversation we have with the Bellevue and Eastside members who built the regional economy we are trying to protect.

"We saw systems around the country that were in a debt spiral because they had succumbed to diverting maintenance money into shinier objects, things on which ribbons could be cut and brass plaques could be affixed."

That's Sound Transit CEO Dow Constantine at our Eastside Business Roundtable this week. On the table: a $35B reset, ridership up 15% to 142K+ daily boardings since the Crosslake Connection opened, and what's still ahead for the Eastside!
