Drink Spiking
The practice of slipping so-called date-rape drugs into drinks is on the rise and for many nightclubbers it is their number one fear. Guard against it by:
Covering your drink with the palm of your hand in crowded situations.
Never accepting a drink that you haven’t seen the bartender pour.
Never leaving your drink unattended.
Never sharing your drink with someone you’ve just met.
Never accepting “harmless” party pills from strangers.
If you are unlucky enough to fall victim to drink spiking you won’t know it until the effects start to take hold. In a nightclub, always stay aware of your physical and mental state and if you start to experience any of the following symptoms seek help from nightclub staff immediately.
Loss of coordination.
Drowsiness or lethargy.
Nausea.
Dizziness.
Disorientation.
Excessive loss of inhibition.
Poor reaction time.
Mental confusion.
Alcohol
Although drinking sensibly is part and parcel of many nightclub visits, drinking too much can put you at risk. Excess alcohol consumption reduces your ability to perceive danger, decreases alertness, makes you more likely to exercise poor judgement and delays responses which might otherwise get you out of a dangerous situation.
Know your limit and stick to it.
Valuables
Sometimes it’s a random crime of opportunity, sometimes it’s the result of a planned professional thieves, but coming back from the toilet or the dance floor to find your handbag has disappeared hurts just as bad either way.
In a crowded room full of people you don’t know, the only way to keep your valuables safe is to keep them with you at all times.
Reducing what you take with you on your night out can also help. Do you really need that iPod? Is that expensive makeup case really necessary? If you don’t have it with you, it can’t get stolen.
Taxis
And if the worst does happen and all your money is stolen, how are you going to get home? Keep a $20 note in your shoe for emergencies and you’ll still have taxi fare at least.
Make sure you have the number of a reputable taxi company in your mobile phone. At the end of a night, when things seem a little blurry, the last thing you want to do is put your safety in the hands of some shonky gypsy-cab operation.
Strength in Numbers
Going out with a group of friends is one of the best safeguards when visiting a nightclub. A group of people is a far less attractive target for criminals than a single person or a couple. Friends can also provide assistance in the event of drink spiking or excess alcohol intake. Travelling in a group, too, is much safer than travelling alone.
Simple Safety Tips
Planning ahead, going out in a group, limiting alcohol intake, being vigilant with valuables and taking sensible precautions against drink spiking are simple safety tips that will help keep you safe at a nightclub.

FRAUD INVESTIGATION:

What is a Fraud Investigation?
A fraud investigation determines whether a scam has taken place and gathers evidence to protect the victims involved.

Fraud is misrepresentation with the intent to deceive. For example, if a company makes a specific claim about a product and knows that the product won’t work as promised, they are guilty of fraud. Fraud is a very real and costly problem that causes loss of money as well as serious injury and sometimes even death.

What Happens During Fraud Investigations?
Fraud investigations begin with a meeting between the investigator and client. The person launching the investigation explains why they suspect deceit and hands over any evidence they have supporting their claims. A good fraud investigator will use this initial information to find more evidence and information. To do this, they may use surveillance, asset searches, background checks, employee investigations, business investigations, and other methods.

Common Types of Fraud
Insurance Fraud

Insurance fraud involves individuals who make false claims to receive insurance money or insurance companies who refuse to honor legitimate claims.

Corporate Fraud

Corporate fraud includes issues like theft of information, compromised customer information, and a damaged reputation.

Financial Fraud

Tax evasion, public corruption, health care fraud, telemarketing fraud, and terrorist financing all fall underFinancial Fraud.

Identity Theft

With identity theft, investigators will look for faulty loan or credit card applications, false withdrawals from bank accounts, dishonest use of calling cards, and using an alternate name to receive benefits.

Internet Fraud

Internet fraud occurs when criminals attempt to take advantage of victims via the internet. This includes theft of personal information or fraudulent transactions that result in the significant loss of money.

Corporate Slip and Fall

This type of fraud involves individuals who purposely organize a fall while inside a store in order to file a claim. They will go as far as to throw water on the floor in order to ensure a slip.

Transit Fraud

This kind of fraud occurs when passengers on buses, subways, or streetcars don’t remain seated or hold rails and fall when the vehicle stops. There are also cases in which individuals allow their feet to be run over or stand in the way of the mirror.

Ticket Fraud

With ticket fraud, a person will purchase tickets for a sporting event or concert that aren’t legitimate. Often these tickets have already been used or don’t exist.

Mechanical Repair Fraud

Often a mechanic will call for fixes that are overpriced or not necessary.

Expense Claim Fraud

When employees pocket runover business expenses they are committing fraud. Often, individuals will claim to stay in hotels costing $200 a night when in reality, they stay in cheap motels and keep the remainder of the money.

Theft of Inventory

With theft of inventory, investigators will look into whether employees steal products or order more than the store needs. Sometimes employees will claim products are expired when they aren’t so they can take them home.

Why Do I Need a Fraud Investigation?
If you are the victim of a scam, you may lose significant amounts of money and, in some cases, your good name. Proving a fraud actually occurred, however, can be complicated and evidence you gather on your own may not be admissible in court. A qualified, experienced investigator helps you receive the compensation you deserve.
