Low curb roomy showers are popular, and for good reason! First off, lots of room to move around in the shower, space for a bench and niche or two for those all important shower products. A hand held showerhead with a sliding holder is a nice touch.

People often do not have time for tub baths, so the shower has become the go-to place for cleanliness. And a relaxing shower is just as refreshing as a soak in the tub.

Good quality exhaust fans with a light and quiet fan operation are a must as well.

Be sure to include a grab bar or two, as anyone can prefer the safety of a properly located support bar.

An updated bath is just the thing to refresh one's spirits! All that moisture can be problematic over time for the grout and all those spaces hard to reach when cleaning.

Many older homes have a tub/shower, but modern families often prefer a large shower and forgoe the tub. If the bathroom is large enough, one can have both, a soaking tub and a roomy shower, but if not, the shower often wins out.

Fresh tile, amenities like wall niche's, low thresholds, improved lighting and added storage are desirable options for the modern master bath. How about heated floor, and heated towel rack? Now it's perfect!

What is most important to you when you walk into your kitchen? The floor, the countertops, the cabinets? Perhaps the lighting?

Homeowners use their kitchens multiple times a day, and if there is something about it that is annoying or not "just right", it can be irritating over time. It's a good idea to determine what about the kitchen needs updating, as tearing out an entire kitchen can be very expensive. However, remodeling elements over time is a very budget friendly way to make it into the perfect kitchen for your family.

Here are some examples of flooring in kitchens we have remodeled, as well as countertops and cabinets. Before starting a remodel project, plan the changes that will work the best for your family.

Got a sagging ceiling? Problem with moisture in the ceiling insulation, plus poor roof construction? This homeowner had serious problems with an old poorly built roof. The joists over the bedroom were sagging, and the ceilings were sagging as a result.

We tore out the old moldy insulation, installed new 2x6 joists sistered and fastened to the existing bottom cord. Installed fresh new insulation, venting where needed, and new drywall. A refreshing and welcome change for this home!

The internet throws around 2 descriptions that sound like the same thing, but are not; ADA (Americans with Disabilites Act) and Universal Design.

ADA is pretty self explanatory; it is designing for the needs of a specific person with accessibilites issues due to health, injuries or age. It has requirements that a space such as a bathroom have specific grab bar heights and turning radiuses.

Universal Design is designing with a flexible, aesthetic approach meant to make a space usable for people of all ages and abilites without feeling institutional.

Bathrooms can be designed to incorporate some ADA specifications but not all; this is often the idea behind universal design. So you can have a grab bar or two and space to turn a wheelchair around, without following all the ADA guidelines. Safety and roominess is never a bad thing!

Decks can always benefit from a roof! No worries about rain, too much sun, or even snow, when there is a nice roof to keep you comfy during your afternoon or evenings relaxing on the deck.

Everyone wants a home that is beautiful, but it must also be functional. It needs to work for how you live your life. If the family has children, that may mean a rec room where they can have friends over, watch movies the grown ups don't want to watch, and hang out.

Empty nesters may be more interested in family visiting for the holidays and having social dinners.

What is the most popular kitchen countertop material today? Engineered stone, commonly called quartz. It is made from 90% ground quartz and 10% resin and pigments, and comes in an amazing array of colors, patterns.

It can mimic the look of natural sones lie granite or marble, and is offered in a wide variety of other colors and designs.

Part of its desirabity comes from its non-porous, stain and scratch resistance and that it requires no sealing.

Whether updating your master bath, or a guest bathroom, including items that make a space feel luxurious is always a winner. A heater floor, and towel warmer are additions you'll be glad you had included.

Other comfort-adding options are large showers with built in benches, niches and layered lighting.

With all the new products coming out, designed for comfort and safety, there is no reason not to include aging-in-place elements to your next bath remodel.

Everyone loves a bench in the shower, hand held shower head with slide bar and a handy grab bar right where you want it. It's not just for the elderly, the aging in place design principles make the bathroom safe for everyone, and fit seamlessly in with any style.

If you are planning on upgrading your master bath soon, ask your contractor to suggest modifications that can make your bathroom ADU safe.
