Buying equipment is exciting, but replacing the wrong equipment is expensive. Before you invest, make sure you’re asking the right questions.
WHO SERVICES THE EQUIPMENT?
One of the biggest mistakes people make is only thinking about delivery day, not everything that happens after. Ask who handles service, how quickly repairs happen, whether replacement parts are easy to get, and if preventative maintenance is an option.
WILL THIS ACTUALLY FIT MY SPACE?
A machine fitting inside the room doesn’t mean that it fits the gym. Think beyond dimensions and consider ceiling height, walkways, loading areas, storage, and flow.
WHAT DOES OWNERSHIP COST AFTER PURCHASE?
The sticker price is rarely the final price. Ask about freight, delivery and installation, assembly, flooring requirements, electrical needs, service, replacement parts, and future maintenance. A lower upfront cost doesn’t always mean lower overall cost.
WILL MEMBERS ACTUALLY USE IT?
Don’t buy equipment just because it’s trending. Think about who your members are and how they train. Ask yourself: Will this piece serve multiple users? Does it solve a need? Will it be used daily? Prioritize high-usage pieces before specialty equipment.
CAN THIS GROW WITH MY FACILITY?
Think long-term. Will this equipment still make sense if membership increases? Can you expand the line later? Will finishes and equipment styles match future editions? Buying with growth in mind helps avoid costly replacements and keeps your facility feeling intentional over time.
HAVE YOU SEEN IT IN PERSON?
Pictures don’t show build quality, smoothness, comfort, footprint, or overall feel. Whenever possible, test the equipment before committing.
