***Student Highlight***
Our next student highlight is Aldo Soval!
He chose Fresh Start because people were telling him that it was a good program and that they had better opportunities for him. When asked about Fresh Start he says it's going really good for him. “It’s way better than high school, the classes are smaller and there aren't many kids here so I actually get the help I need when I need it.” When he was attending high school he felt as though he was just there and no one paid attention to him, now that he's joined Fresh Start he feels important. He likes how everyday the teachers interact with all the students, and not just a select few. It's been different for him because of the help he receives from staff and the interactions he has had. “Being here changed my way of seeing things, because before I didn't really care about school or going. Now I feel like I can't miss a day and graduating is important to me.”
Aldo enjoys that everyday he comes in it is not the same. “I don't really get bored while I'm here. It's not always the same thing, we change it up.”
He would tell his past self not to give up, “Think more positive, look at the brighter things in life. It's not all bad and it's always going to get better.”
Before attending Fresh Start Aldo wasn't thinking of attending college, but his plans have changed now he's thinking about attending college and finding a job in auto/mechanic.
In Aldo’s free time he enjoys hanging out with his family, listening to music. His favorite artist right now is Kodak Black. One of his challenges would be having the motivation to have a better future for himself. He was always told that he needed to attend school and get a diploma, he wouldn’t get anywhere in life or have nice things which stuck with him. He is proud of being a good friend and a good support system to those he hangs around. He would really like to go to Colorado again. Aldo has 3 younger siblings who are very supportive of him. They are always reminding him that they are proud of him for going back to school.
He would like to shout out his mom for always being there for him and pushing him to do better. “She's never stopped supporting me even when I wasn't doing anything.” He would tell future fresh start members to just do it, “They will really enjoy it if you get accepted. Take it seriously , this place has good opportunities. And enjoy your time being here.”
