Five months ago, I committed to a new morning routine starting with just 10 minutes a day. I challenged myself to increase it by 1% daily.

Today, I’ve hit a consistent 30 minutes of quiet reflection and prayer—and I can finally touch my toes (thanks to a bonus stretching routine!).

But consistency isn't just about mornings; it's about how we approach all of our habits. In my latest Substack post, I share the core lessons I've learned along the way, plus a simple "Importance vs. Confidence" tool I’m currently using to try and kick my daily soda habit.

☀️ Double your organization's impact this summer! ☀️

Summer is the perfect time to step back, look at the big picture, and prep your team for what’s ahead. Whether you're aiming for Q4 business targets, year-end nonprofit giving, or fall church ministry alignment—strategic clarity changes everything.

Through August 31st, Mustful Strategic Consulting is running a "Double Your Impact" Summer Referral Program. Here is how it works:

🤝 Refer a leader: Introduce a local business owner, nonprofit executive, or pastor who wants to grow or build a stronger board.
🎁 Give back: If they book a strategic planning package or board workshop, 10% of their initial contract value (up to $250) will be donated to a local nonprofit of your choice OR applied as a credit to your own organization!
⚡ Bonus: The organization you refer gets a complimentary discovery session.

Let’s work together to make our community stronger! Introduce us via email or drop a message to Brandon at [email protected].

🚗 300 hours of windshield time, a looming family move, and a whole lot of fresh paint.

Preparing our home for the market recently forced me to face a tough reality: it is incredibly easy to ignore the maintenance needs right in front of us until a hard deadline forces our hand.

It made me think about our churches, nonprofits, and businesses. What operational cracks or blind spots are we ignoring simply because we lack the immediate motivation to address them?

In my latest newsletter, I dive into why we shouldn't wait for a crisis to take care of organizational health—and I share 9 excellent (and mostly free!) online assessment tools to help your team get started.

Remember the classic sitcom Full House where the Tanner family used a baseball bat as a "talking stick" during house meetings? ⚾

While we definitely don't recommend bringing a baseball bat into your boardroom, the core principle is spot on: important conversations need clear guardrails!

Too often, teams fall into the trap of "polite avoidance." We quietly nod along to flawed proposals just to keep things moving. But avoiding difficult conversations is incredibly costly to your growth.

It's time to normalize tension while protecting relationships. 🤝 Brandon Mustful's latest blog post shares actionable ways to invite healthy, mission-driven dissent into your everyday work culture.

I’ll be honest: I’m in a bit of a waiting period right now.

While I’m waiting for several consulting proposals to land, I’m not just sitting on my hands. I’m putting my neurons to work. 🧠

From mastering Motivational Interviewing to brushing up on chemistry (and even outdoor survival skills), I’m focused on one thing: Being better prepared for the next project than I was for the last.

Is "Niceness" Killing Your Mission? 🤫

In many nonprofits and churches, we treat conflict like a dirty word. We smooth things over to keep the peace—but at what cost?

In Part 2 of my series on leadership, I’m diving into why conflict is actually your organization’s greatest growth engine. When people care deeply, they will disagree. The magic happens when you use that friction to sharpen your strategy instead of running from it.

In this post, you’ll discover:

🎵 How a staff dispute over "music in the kennels" at Great River Rescue led to a scientific breakthrough in animal care.

💰 Why the "messy" tensions in your fundraising debriefs are actually where the best ideas live.

🤝 How to move your board from "rubber-stamping" to productive push-back.

Stop playing the peacemaker and start leading for impact. It’s time to embrace the heat.

There is no substitute for showing up. 🤝

I recently attended the Kinship, Inc. annual gathering in Hudson, WI, and it was a powerful reminder that digital interactions can’t replace face-to-face connection. Beyond just "networking," it was about building real friendships with people dedicated to mentoring youth and strengthening communities.

Check out my latest reflections on the power of an attitude of gratitude and why we should all make time for honest connection.
