Lake Cable manufactures reliable, highly engineered wire & cable solutions. BETTER. SMARTER. FASTER. Lake Cable grew to about 100,000 square feet 7 years ago.

Bill Runzel IV started Lake Cable in the 1990’s on the west side of Chicago with just 3 machines for making wire – and a total of four people. Fortunately, Bill had quite a few things going for him during those humble beginnings. For one, he comes from a family that’s been in the wire business for over 100 years and 4 generations. So let’s just say he knew a thing or two about how to make great wi

re. Second, he knew that he wouldn’t be the most trusted name by being the biggest name in the industry. He would have to innovate in ways other makers of wire and plants couldn’t. It was no small order:

• He’d have to be faster, offering the shortest lead times in the industry
• He’d have to deliver more consistently than anyone
• He’d have to have a process that would outsmart traditional manufacturing
• He’d have to hire the best people and cross-train them
• He’d have to implement a system to eliminate project guesswork
• He’d have to cultivate relationships with customers by guiding them, not merely serving them. We’re close to 400,000 square feet today.

Behind the scenes at Lake Cable! 🎬

We had the privilege of welcoming Inside Business Today to our Valparaiso plants as they filmed for an upcoming feature set to air on Bloomberg Television showcasing Lake Cable.

From interviews with our team to footage throughout our facilities, it was an exciting opportunity to showcase the people, innovation, and commitment to quality that drive everything we do. We're proud of our team and look forward to sharing the completed feature when it airs.

It was a fantastic day on the course at the WAI Charity Golf Outing! ⛳☀️

Lake Cable was proud to have 32 golfers representing us—making up nearly a quarter of the 132 participants who came together to support a great cause while strengthening connections across our industry.

From friendly competition on the course to meaningful conversations with vendors, suppliers, and fellow industry professionals, the day was filled with networking, teamwork, plenty of laughs, and even a few awesome prizes along the way.

🏆 Congratulations to one of our Valparaiso factory teams for taking home the championship! We're proud of the team for bringing home the win and representing Lake Cable so well on and off the course.

A big thank you to the Wire Association International for hosting another outstanding event. We're grateful to be part of such a strong and supportive industry!

Work hard. Play hard. That's how we do it at Lake Cable!

Our Mid-Year Sales Meeting brought the team together to celebrate our successes, share ideas, and gear up for an exciting second half of the year. From collaborating on strategy to strengthening the relationships that help us succeed every day, it was a great opportunity to reconnect and refocus.

And because every great meeting deserves a little fun, we wrapped things up with some friendly competition at Puttshack! Between the laughs, the putts, and a little healthy rivalry, it was the perfect way to build teamwork both inside and outside the office.

We love inspiring the next generation of innovators
Our Process Engineer, Mariana Sanchez Badillo, recently visited Glenn Westlake Middle School to speak with 7th and 8th grade students about the world of cable manufacturing. She gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how cables are made and shared what it’s like to work as a process engineer.
From raw materials to finished product, Mariana helped bring engineering to life—sparking curiosity and showing students the real-world impact of STEM careers.
