I submitted my sons’ stories this morning for the THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT and I thought I would share here with you all. May their lives make a difference and save someone else..
David was a bright, beautiful child full of laughter and mischief. He didn’t meet a person he didn’t love and he was generous to a fault. He would do anything to make you laugh. David also struggled with mental health issues and the feeling of not being good enough. He was the oldest of 4 siblings, two brothers Adam and John who were only 1 and 2 years younger and a sister Isabelle who was 7 years younger. Of his four siblings David was the only one who struggled with his weight and this was a big deal to him. David began to get in trouble seriously when he was 16. He spent a year in jail between the ages of 18 and 19 and ultimately decided to end his own life by overdosing on his father’s oxycodone prescription in September of 2017. David was just 19 years old when he passed.
John was the youngest of three boys and had a younger sister. John was a beautiful baby from day one. He was extremely intelligent and loved the outdoors. He made friends with no problem and was always very confident in himself and believed he could do anything he wanted. After losing his older brother in 2017, John was devastated. At 16 he began to use drugs recreationally and it was not long before he became addicted to opioids. He battled his addiction silently for almost 5 years, had a beautiful baby girl Juliet with his high school sweetheart Sam in 2021, and started to seek help for his addiction. John fought hard trying different treatments from MAT to detox to rehab before going into the Hope Center Ministries house where he found his faith again and was able to reestablish his relationships with his family and his daughter. He chose to leave the home early so he could work and provide for his daughter and sadly, he was not quite ready. On June 21, 2023, John relapsed and the pills he took, took his life. John was 22 years old when he joined his brother David in the arms of Jesus. Both boys are missed terribly every single day.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please reach out. There is hope and there is help.
