God’s Word is like a never-ending bucket of buttery popcorn.

You know how when you’re eating popcorn, you lose track of how much you’ve had until you suddenly hit the bottom of the bucket? Or maybe for you it’s a bag of potato chips. Either way, it’s that kind of snack you can’t help but keep going back to. “Just one more bite,” you tell yourself.

Well, this is exactly how I feel about God’s Word (except, thankfully, there’s no guilt in overindulging - ha!). The more I read, the more I want to keep reading. Every verse pulls you deeper, every story connects to another, and before you know it, your heart feels full in the best possible way.

Lately, I’ve found myself truly fascinated by how Scripture aligns with history. Seeing the timeline of God’s promises unfold is just really cool.

My prayer is that soon you’ll reach for His Word like you reach for another bite of popcorn.

P.S. I’m truly enjoying the Bible Recap, too. It helps put the Bible in chronological order, and I highly recommend you check it out for yourself!

A few days after Taylor Swift's new album was released, I was scrolling through Facebook and came across a post that stopped me in my tracks.

It said, in a nutshell, that Taylor's albums today aren't the same as the ones many of us grew up with. The lyrics are blatantly sexualized, wrapped in catchy melodies.

And then I read this line, the one that hit me like a weight: "The truth is, culture preaches to our kids faster than we disciple them."

Woah. I read it again.

"The truth is, culture preaches to our kids faster than we disciple them." That one sentence hasn't left me.

Because the Truth is, the things of this world are meant to be shiny. They are designed to entice, to draw us in like quicksand. And while I'm not saying we can't love music (because I absolutely do), I was reminded of something the original post also said that I can't shake:

"It's okay to love music, BUT we also must teach [our children] to reason, to discern, and to be grounded in Truth first." Yes, our kids need discernment. But what about me?

How is culture preaching to me faster than I'm letting Truth shape me? How do the songs, shows, and stories I consume affect my heart, my marriage, my peace?

Because if I'm being honest, when my marriage isn't on the firmest foundation, the toxicity of mainstream media can make me start to question what's "normal." What's "healthy?" What's "enough?"

And then, I'm reminded of an old hymn I used to sing as a little girl, which I now sing to my own children. It goes:

"Oh, be careful little eyes what you see… Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear…"

Because the things of this world can make the things of God seem defective and even misplaced in a world that doesn't know Him.

So today, I'm asking myself (and maybe you are too): What voices am I letting preach to my heart faster than I let His Word speak?

*The Gospel Is Worth It*

Last Friday, Lincoln asked me to play Christ Be Magnified on the way to school. If you've followed along, you know this song has become a staple for us on every car ride.

But this particular morning, when we reached the bridge, Lincoln said, “Pause it.”

These words had caught his attention: " I won’t bow to idols, I’ll stand strong and worship You, and if it puts me in the fire, I’ll rejoice ’cause You’re there too.”

He asked, “Why do they say that puts me in the fire? What does that mean?”

So, I told him the story of three men who refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s idol. I explained how the furnace was meant to be a punishment that would kill them. And, that they knew it would kill them. But they knew God was worth it, and they knew bowing to an idol was not right. So, they were thrown into the fire. But instead of dying, God showed up and protected them from the flames.

Fast forward to Wednesday, the day of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. At church that evening, the lesson just "happened" to be about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And, while Charlie’s story didn’t end the way we hoped it would here on earth, he received the greatest reward for being steadfast in his faith. He was instantly met with Jesus face-to-face.

Then yesterday at church during worship, we sang only the bridge of Christ Be Magnified. The exact words Lincoln had asked about on Friday and the same story of God had been woven in throughout my week.

"If it puts me in the fire, I’ll rejoice ’cause You’re there too.”

Moments like this aren't a coincidence. I truly believe they are God’s way of reminding us of a handful of things.

01. Our children are listening. To the songs, the Scriptures, the conversations, they are absorbing it all.

02. Our children understand more than we give them credit for. Lincoln was able to connect song lyrics to a Bible story to real-life courage.

03. God often uses our children to remind us of His truths. I’ve heard the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego countless times, but this week, God used Lincoln to remind me the importance of it.

04. There are no coincidences with God. He weaves reminders into our lives to strengthen us, preparing us for each season of life.

05. And here’s the truth I carried with me through it all: The Gospel is worth it. Always.

The weight of the world feels especially heavy right now, and today the tears have been more than I can count. But even in the middle of my grief, questions, sadness, and even anger—I know I can bring every single emotion to the cross. God can handle it all.
