*The Gospel Is Worth It*
Last Friday, Lincoln asked me to play Christ Be Magnified on the way to school. If you've followed along, you know this song has become a staple for us on every car ride.
But this particular morning, when we reached the bridge, Lincoln said, “Pause it.”
These words had caught his attention: " I won’t bow to idols, I’ll stand strong and worship You, and if it puts me in the fire, I’ll rejoice ’cause You’re there too.”
He asked, “Why do they say that puts me in the fire? What does that mean?”
So, I told him the story of three men who refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s idol. I explained how the furnace was meant to be a punishment that would kill them. And, that they knew it would kill them. But they knew God was worth it, and they knew bowing to an idol was not right. So, they were thrown into the fire. But instead of dying, God showed up and protected them from the flames.
Fast forward to Wednesday, the day of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. At church that evening, the lesson just "happened" to be about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And, while Charlie’s story didn’t end the way we hoped it would here on earth, he received the greatest reward for being steadfast in his faith. He was instantly met with Jesus face-to-face.
Then yesterday at church during worship, we sang only the bridge of Christ Be Magnified. The exact words Lincoln had asked about on Friday and the same story of God had been woven in throughout my week.
"If it puts me in the fire, I’ll rejoice ’cause You’re there too.”
Moments like this aren't a coincidence. I truly believe they are God’s way of reminding us of a handful of things.
01. Our children are listening. To the songs, the Scriptures, the conversations, they are absorbing it all.
02. Our children understand more than we give them credit for. Lincoln was able to connect song lyrics to a Bible story to real-life courage.
03. God often uses our children to remind us of His truths. I’ve heard the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego countless times, but this week, God used Lincoln to remind me the importance of it.
04. There are no coincidences with God. He weaves reminders into our lives to strengthen us, preparing us for each season of life.
05. And here’s the truth I carried with me through it all: The Gospel is worth it. Always.
