Hey, small nonprofit leader! I know fundraising can be super intimidating, but outsourcing your fundraising to restaurant charity nights isn't as sweet as it sounds when it comes time to count your 10%. 🚫

Consider creating an annual fundraising plan with at least these 3 budget-filling bakes instead:

🍪 A spring campaign or org-hosted fundraising event—NWA nonprofits have , yay!

🍰 A year end campaign—kick off with Giving Tuesday and continue through Dec 31st!

🧁 A monthly donor campaign for sustainable, recurring income!

Check out some of my older posts to learn about how to plan for these 3 main fundraising campaigns, and then let me know what questions I can help with!

🖤 The gentle mother you always deserved is inside you, friend.

Let her comfort you, esteem you, delight you. Let her bake your favorite cookies, hold space for your emotions, and always take your side.

Let her trust you, believe in you, support you.

Let her call LOUD attention to your talents, and soft awareness to the rough parts of you that still need to be loved smooth.

Let her cry with you, laugh with you, rage with you, play with you, and dream your biggest, wildest dreams with you.

Let her bandage your childhood wounds with gentleness and compassion.

Let her words to you be kind and doting, let her touch be tender—and remember, you'll always be her little girl.

Happy Mother's Day to all of us who are mothering/reparenting ourselves. What gift will you give yourself today? 🖤

✨ 2023 solidified for me that time, in fact, does NOT heal wounds.

Time can soften wounds.

Time can conceal wounds.

Time can suppress wounds.

But healing? That takes intention. It takes facing the hard and awful and messy—and exposing it in safety.

I was diagnosed with CPTSD in 2023 and have been working with an incredible therapist to unpack years of trauma and abuse that time couldn't heal, even though I assumed it had.

Something stings less and less as time goes by and we assume it's because we've healed—but we neglect to notice how we've adapted our behaviors and our coping mechanisms to account for a new reality where we feel less safe—more guarded.

Can you relate?

I'm learning that real healing requires us to look at how the past keeps cropping up in the present, like a thorn covered w**d from hell.

We get pricked. We prick others. And our wounds spread their w**dy spores.

Ew.

I'm beyond done with that. Here's to real healing for us both in 2024. 🤍

🍂 Grateful and aware. 🍂 Thanksgiving is a day I grew up celebrating without apprehension.

Today, it's a holiday that comes with a lot of baggage for me—one that romanticizes the genocide of indigenous people, one that magnifies loneliness and family conflict, one that shares a bed with capitalism and exploitation.

And yet, gratitude is a deeply held personal value. I feel the tension between the world I *want* to live in, and the reality that I have all that I need.

Sending you love and compassion if you're navigating similar feelings this holiday. 🧡🍂

👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 READ THE CAPTION!

”I should be working on my year end campaign. I know I’m behind.”

I hear these sentiments from small nonprofit leaders every November—and each time I reply by asking them… ”You’re behind compared to who?”

Hear me when I say—you’re not behind unless you decide to do nothing!!!

Let’s do a quick exercise together, K?

1. Take a deep breath in through your nose….and let it out slowly through your mouth. Repeat 2 times. 😮‍💨

2. I want you to cut yourself a little mental slack. Say to yourself, “I’ve been running hard with a lot of responsibilities and I’m not behind anyone.” ✨

3. Grab a pen or your notes app and write down these 4 fundraising methods. Decide which methods you can reasonably execute on between now and December 31. 📝

Each of these will take a little intentionality, but can be done in a day or two, even with interruptions.

🍌 Mail a letter, including a return envelope. This method is especially effective with donors over 50 and loses its effectiveness gradually as donors get younger.

🍌 Send multiple emails. Personalize them as much as possible using merge tags to automatically add your donor’s name in both the subject line and the message body.

🍌 Post multiple times per week to social media. Add DONATE buttons and consider setting up fundraisers on Facebook and Instagram.

🍌 Add a pop up to your website that reroutes visitors to your giving page. Make sure it’s quick and easy for donors to make their gift on your website.

NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY OR HOW TO ASK YOUR DONORS TO GIVE AT YEAR END???

👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 This one was HARD to fit on just 10 slides, guys! I just love this part of fundraising so much that it killed me to leave anything out! 🤣

(I did have to, unfortunately, but these things are the most important!)

This is unrelated, but I recently had a new friend ask me why I give so much valuable info away for free on social media. 🤔

Honestly, it brings me a lot of joy to teach visually in this format! I also see it as an opportunity to help small nonprofits who will probably never sign up for coaching.

Trust me, there are SO MANY benefits to working 1:1 with me—and all the other amazing fundraising coaches out there—that I don’t have to worry AT ALL about giving my secrets away. 😉❤️

🔥 Okay, back to your year end fundraising message!

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a billion times—your fundraising shouldn’t be about you and your organization!

As you flip through these slides and read the examples, please take notice of how little we’re talking about the nonprofit who is sending this letter.

We’ve only mentioned them ONE TIME—and only in reference to where the donor’s gift will physically land.

On the flip side, we’ve mentioned the donor 7 times—8 if we include their name at the top. And I definitely do. 😉

Another thing you’ll notice is that there’s no long-winded introduction. We’re cutting right to the chase here!

Your donor is busy and may stop reading if you start your message with small talk. 😳

You can use this same fundraising ask across EVERY channel—direct mail, email, socials, website, etc.

AND a great year end fundraising message is built to last! Once you have your year end message down, you can use that exact message, in that exact format, year after year.

What questions do you have about this? Let me know in the comments!

My client load has been so busy these last few months that I haven't been able to post here in a while, but just wanted to share this gratitude while I was thinking about it!

I am incredibly honored to walk alongside so many amazing nonprofit leaders as they build their skills and confidence in fundraising. Wowza!!! 😭❤️

👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 Hey, small nonprofit leader! Did you know you can turn any event into a fundraiser with a simple new donor kit?

For small nonprofits, bigger isn’t always better when it comes to fundraising events.

Leaders like you who are already managing so much can incorporate fundraising into the events you’re already doing and the spaces you’re already in!

Here are 4 quick tips to create a new donor kit:

🍌 1. Create a flyer with your best fundraising offer! An offer is a dollar amount tied to a specific outcome. Make sure it’s worded in a way that lets potential donors solve a problem they care deeply about!

Provide a QR code that goes directly to your giving page so that making their gift is as easy as possible.

🍌 2. Provide a bit of nonprofit swag & materials for anyone who makes a gift! Stickers, pens, or other small branded items are fairly inexpensive and make great parting gifts for your new donor.

Send them on their way with more info about your mission and how your org uses their gift to make a difference!

Brochures & newsletters are a great choice for this. Your new donor should walk away with an understanding that their gift has power in your hands!

🍌 3. Make sure you have a solid plan to thank your new donor and follow up with them again in a few weeks. Don’t just say “thank you for giving”—always use thanking as an opportunity to remind your donor about the great thing they did!

🍌 4. Create multiple kits so you’ll always have one available for traveling to various events. Have additional kits set up as new donor stations in your office/facility and prepare to pitch your fundraising offer to guests as they visit.

Does your nonprofit already have a new donor kit? What else do you include in yours? Let me know in the comments! ✨

👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 There are just some organizations/leaders you admire, even from afar, for their passion and impact on the community they serve.

Jenny and Hub of HOPE NWA are one of them for me!

I secretly had my heart set on working with Jenny when I started Fruitful Fundraising Co at the beginning of 2022—and pretty soon, the stars aligned for us. ✨

Our monthly meetings are always life-giving and productive—and often include pizza. 🍕

Jenny and her team are doing amazing work to help survivors rebuild their lives after human trafficking, and educate the public in prevention and awareness.

It's an honor to coach this wonderful organization! ❤️

👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 Working with Adrean has been a true highlight of my fundraising career!

She is an incredible nonprofit leader and her heart goes fully into everything she does. In fact, Adrean and her team hosted a big yard sale to raise the extra funds needed to work with me!

We've met 100% remotely for an entire year—myself in Northwest Arkansas and Adrean in Durant Oklahoma.

A four hour zoom meeting would feel like a special kind of torture to most people, but 4 hours in a WORKING zoom meeting is music to Adrean's ears! 🎵

She comes ready every month with a list of questions and we get right to work hammering out fundraising pieces & extensive planning documents that make it easier for her to execute a growing fundraising program—on top of everything else she's doing to lead J127 Ministry!

I love the work Adrean and her team are doing to provide a safe home for young women in Oklahoma.

Thank you for trusting me to coach you, Adrean! You are an absolute treasure. ❤️
