Many employers believe that if they hire an independent contractor (IC), they are not exposed to any liability for actions taken by the IC. A recent court case, Stout v. Bottom line if you are the employer, say, for a healthcare worker: Would a future court determine that abuse of a patient, in any form, be considered a "dangerous activity"? If so, the employer will be liable.
