Race Farms goes back generations within the Race family and they have countless stories to tell!📚 The insight and knowledge their family has is priceless and invaluable. It was one of the most interesting trips taken to date to visit their incredibly special farm.

Race Farms has been a part of the UAC team (Urban Agriculture Cooperative ) for a couple years, now growing specifically for food access initiatives including CSA boxes for local Newark constituents.

It was an honor, and nothing less, to tour their farm for the afternoon and see the beautiful lands their family has been on for decades.

If you’re ever in west New Jersey, go check out their farm and *DEFINITELY* do some fresh strawberry picking! We’ve never tasted strawberries so sweet, ever! Arguably the best strawberries we’ve ever had. Hands down 🙌

Did you know that Newark has had food scarcity issues since the 1800’s? The recent worldwide pandemic exasperated those issues further and organizations like Urban Agriculture (Urban Agriculture Cooperative ) are on the front lines of combating this major issue that Newarkers face on a daily basis.

This summer, UAC and RWJBarnabas Health opened their new Farm To Community Center AKA Harvest Food Hub located in the heart of downtown Newark, New Jersey on Halsey Street. Fire Power Media was honored to be there to capture the grand opening action and to talk to farmers who are supporting the much needed farm to city initiatives providing fresh produce to underserved communities.

Hear how some of the farmers are reacting to the gorgeous new space where they are actively collaborating on CSA boxes, community events, and educational programs to serve the constituents of Newark.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for this incredible facility and the ways that it will support people who need the most!

Fire Power Media caught up with Chef Charlene at the Newark Community Health Centers Farmers Market and asked her about the delicious seasonal recipes she created for the market visitors to try! She specifically used fresh produce locally grown in New Jersey by Urban Agriculture Cooperative farmers; showing that healthy meals and snacks can be made with ease and with locally grown ingredients.

UAC and Chef Charlene are always bringing tangible efforts toward Newark’s community to support accessible fresh food availability and educating the public on how they can make healthy meals at home thus, improving their health and quality of life. 🌱

The recipes featured are a lovely summer squash salad with a fennel vinaigrette, and a sweet treat featuring local blueberries, honey, and chia seeds!

As Chef Charlene says, “it doesn’t take much to eat clean!” 👍 Check out the quick recipes and see for yourself! ☺️

It is possible to not only eat clean but to support local too! This is how we can keep our local farmers going and fresh food access available for everyone.
