Oh hey there! Happy Tuesday! How are we?

In today’s , I’m talking about:
- Managing Up to a boss who is conflict-avoidant
- a couple of strategies for this dynamic (which is… tough. I’m sorry if this is your situation!)
- “It would be helpful if you could…”
- “I would really appreciate your support with…”
- the Lost Mail Project
- how my husband and I are pulling off a sting with USPS
- visiting the African American history museum tomorrow with a class of 4th graders
- carpe diem when it comes to these kinds of institutions… it’s hard to predict what’s at risk of closing these days

Friends! Last week was very exciting, I was published in Harvard Business Review! If you either attend or lead one-on-ones, I highly suggest you give this a read!

Despite all that one-on-one meetings can offer, they can be challenging to navigate, whether you’re new to management or have spent several years in a leadership role. Here some signs that your one-on-ones have gone stale, are unproductive, or are falling short of their potential: you don’t want...

"What can one little person do?" is a song they sing at my son's Elementary School. This morning I am leveraging this message because I am one little person but I am also the leader of a company.

Plucky believes that . We mourn the long-standing violence against the Black community. We are committed to making business choices to support efforts for Racial Justice and we are in this for the long haul.

Some serious Career Path feels coming out in coaching lately. Although we send these postcards to the clients themselves (so they REMEMBER how GENIUS they are), I am always a little tempted to hang them on my fridge instead. ;)

"Dear Plucky: I’ve been waiting for a promotion for a long time and keep getting passed up, but my manager says I’m doing great. Should I just ask directly for the promotion? Is this seen as too self-centered?"

Old Blog Post, still true ideas. Enjoy.

Every December, we publish My Plucky Path, a free career planning guide for the upcoming year. We did that 4 months ago... and then 2020 fell apart.

Enter: My Steady Path, career planning for Covid times.

For the most part, the past 6 weeks have been a time of reaction rather than strategy and this is normal. But you may start feeling the buds of planning – and if that’s true, we made a new planning guide.

Even the brightest and most creative leaders cannot fix Covid right now. This is true and this is also hard to swallow. So what do we do?

I think we find ways to help... and then we practice patience. And healthy distractions. And connecting, resting and grieving. If you don't practice this s**t today, you're going to be burned the hell out when/if a recession does hit. Do not bang yourself into immoveable walls, I beg of you!

I talked about this, particularly how leaders can focus on the things they *do* have control over, on the 100th episode of Jason's podcast, last week. Have a listen!
