What makes Voyager unique?
I feel that Voyager is unique on two main grounds. The first being how the projects we take on and clients we work with are extremely wide-ranging. For instance, in my past three semesters as a consultant, I had the chance to engage with three completely separate industries, helping me broaden my knowledge and competence in different work roles. The second is twofold, including our democratic recruitment process and ability to assume leadership positions at an early stage, even as newly admitted members. During recruitment, every single member has a say and a vote, which ensures that we are all welcoming people into the club that are truly great additions. It is common for new/younger members in Voyager to get involved right away and hold leadership roles, which was an exciting draw to me when I first joined.
How has Voyager shaped your college career?
Voyager has certainly shaped my college career in a positive way. As a freshman who had just come back to Berkeley in the spring after studying abroad in London during the fall semester, I was searching for a tight-knit and supportive community to make this large school feel smaller. I found that Voyager had the perfect balance between work and social opportunities and quickly felt in place and “at home” (as cheesy as that sounds). From a professional standpoint, Voyager and all of its resources has helped tremendously and I hope to go into consulting full-time because of it. The club has been valuable also because I have found that at least one or two members will be in my classes, so forming study groups is a given. Lastly, I can confidently say the friendships I have formed through Voyager will last a lifetime and I have shared so many amazing memories, laughs and fun times with this incredible group of people. I am so excited to continue making more!
Any advice for applicants?
Advice I would give applicants is to be yourself and show us the real you! All of us in Voyager are so eager to meet you, so shake the nerves and simply show up to as many events as you can with a good attitude, questions on hand, and a willingness to chat with us and get to know our club better. I would also highly recommend applicants to go to Voyager’s case workshop event which will take place on Thursday, 9/2 at 8-10PM, Latimer 120. I remember this workshop being immensely helpful when I was going through recruitment as two Voyager members walk through an actual case that was used during a previous semester’s interview round. Finally, I would love to remind applicants that absolutely no business/consulting experience is required to be considered and get into this amazing organization. We are hoping to learn about your true passions, interests and goals throughout the recruitment process!
