At 20:15 this evening all 4 fire companies were dispatched to Briar Patch Drive for the report of a fire in the garage of a residential.
Arriving fire officers were met by the residents in front of the home and an active fire was found involving contents in the garage. The fire was knocked down using a portable water can, arriving firefighters removed the burning contents and extinguished remaining hot spots.
There were two occupants home at the time of the fire, one resident experienced symptoms of smoke inhalation and was evaluated by EMS and released on scene. No pets were in the home and there were no injuries to firefighters.
The home sustained minor structural damage and there was no displacement to the residents. The Berlin Fire Marshals Office is investigating, a large capacity snowblower battery that was found may have contributed to the start of the fire.

Companies 3 and 2 worked a serious accident which affected both sides of Route 5 this evening.

At 20:41 dispatch reported a multi car accident with unknown injuries in the area of Route 5 and Route 9. Arriving resources found a 2 car accident on the Southbound side of Route 5 with one vehicle on fire and an injured person in the roadway. Firefighters extinguished the fire and one patient was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There was an extensive amount of debris and oil on the roadway, which was closed to Southbound traffic while first responders operated and the vehicles were removed. The roadway has since reopened.

At 04:02 this morning our dispatch center received a call from the residents at 306 Mooreland Rd stating smoke was filling their home.
Our first arriving fire officer found a smoke condition inside and the occupants in the front yard. The 3 occupants were accounted for and were evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation and subsequently transported to an area hospital.
Firefighters made entry and extinguished an active fire in the attic. The home sustained moderate smoke and water damage and it is expected the residents will be displaced.
There were no pets in the home and no injuries reported by frefighters. Mutual aid was provided by our Task Force 51 partners, the Berlin Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause.
