On Monday, I met with a client for what I thought was going to be a discussion about workshops I could do for his company throughout 2024.
As it turned out, while we both had the same goals for the growth of his company, our ideas of how to accomplish those goals were vastly different.
In fact, he was aware of my social media presence and my engagement skills in that area, so he wanted me to fill that position in his company and he presented the budget he'd allotted.
Now, the old me would have done everything I knew how to do to make that work, even though I haven't done social media campaigns for clients in almost four years.
The current me took a beat and said, "Thank you for thinking of me for this position, but it doesn't fit in with my strategic plan for my business, nor would it be fiscally responsible of me to take on an assignment at that price point."
You might think this conversation didn't go well because I didn't get the gig I wanted or accept the gig he was offering, but let's take a look at it again.
Rather than accepting an assignment doing work I'd happily left behind in 2020, I stuck to my guns and respectfully declined his offer, leaving room for the right opportunity to come along.
Plus, though we're not working together to strengthen and grow his company as this point in time, we ended the meeting on a positive note by agreeing to keep the lines of communication open and touch base in mid-February.
It's a matter of perspective.
Now, I shared this story with you because I'm opening up my schedule to work with 5 people to help you cultivate the mindset to make decisions like the one in the scenario above from a place of confidence rather than fear and scarcity. To grab one of those spots, DM me or comment on this post so we can schedule a conversation to discuss the opportunity.
