Our lab got its start at Hampden-Sydney college in Farmville, Virginia. We were originally chemists studying the science of handcrafted soap-making. We were approached by an Essential Oil company who was having problems with one of their oils. They had pulled the oil in question and were offering a full refund for it after a third party lab had tested it and found it be "adulterated". They wanted
us to test their products for purity so that they could be sure they were selling "genuine" high quality oil. The more oils we tested the more we began to learn about the problems plaguing the essential oil industry. One of the biggest problems was that there are many companies who want and need accurate quality control testing but can not find an affordable and efficient laboratory to partner with. Realizing that we couldn't effect large scale change in Virginia we moved our testing location to Gainesville, Florida. We wanted to keep the research aspect of what we do, so we decided to partner with the University of Florida's Mass Spectroscopy lab. The UF Mass Spec lab aids in our method and procedure development for new services and works with us to improve our efficiency in the tests we already do. We believe in being the most affordable, accurate, and client focused third party essential oil testing lab in the United States and are currently looking to partner with supply and distillery companies so that they can sell high quality, unadulterated oils.
