I knew her as Renee. On the streets, she was known as “Mama Hillbilly” and if you ever heard her unique sayings, you understood why.
We first met Renee three years ago during a winter storm. She was battling stage 4 ovarian cancer, yet her concern was that we help her friend Donna. That was Renee. She had such a big heart and was always looking out for someone else. She loved big.
Over the three years I knew her, I watched her grow so much. She moved into housing, endured multiple rounds of treatment, and was baptized at Church Under the Bridge. She was the most resilient person I’ve ever known, a fighter who faced so much and was an Overcomer!
One of the things I treasured most was hearing her share what God was showing her through the devotionals she read with her neighbor. I loved listening to her and seeing her faith grow. Shortly after she was placed on hospice her church under the bridge family prayed over her even though she couldn’t make the service and gave her a rock to remember who her Rock was. She was so deeply touched when I showed her the video of everyone praying over her. She felt so loved. I will never forget getting to watch her worship freely as Victory Church youth sang that Sunday at church under the bridge.
Renee wanted her services to be held at Church Under the Bridge, the same place where she was baptized. Her funeral service will be held there on November 29 at 3:00 p.m. We will serve a hot meal, worship together, and hear an encouraging message from Pastor Chris. Please join us as we honor Renee’s life and remember her strength, her unforgettable sayings, and the love she so freely gave.
Renee, I’m so grateful that winter storm brought you into our lives. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed. 🤍
