I got to share an intro to nonprofits and my weekend morning coffee with the Indian Dance Educators Association’s Professional Development Event. (I didn’t actually share my coffee.)

Thanks for having me, and the great questions!

Join me and a few great advocacy experts tomorrow (Wednesday, April 8 ) as we discuss advocacy trends and best practices in these strange times, using a Creative Youth Development piece of mine that Americans for the Arts published a couple of years ago as a launching point.

Thanks National Guild for Community Arts Education for organizing and inviting me!

“Working together and in a coordinated fashion, we can achieve more for young people” (CYD National Action Blueprint) .This belief is at the heart of advocacy and policy efforts to advance creative youth development. Not only did I get to guest lecture about fundraising planning for a class in American University’s Arts Management program, but I also got a mug!

Thanks for having me - it was a pleasure meeting the next generation of arts managers (and making sure they have actionable and flexible fundraising plans).

When it’s your last day of a long client engagement, and they not only surprise you with lunch & cupcakes, but they also dub it a “Cel-Ed-bration.”

Thank you DC Youth Orchestra Program!

I had the pleasure of asking freelance arts journalist and former Washington Post Backstage columnist Rebecca Ritzel at the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County’s media relations boot camp questions about what makes a media relations pitch successful (or not).

She was very generous in her many very specific & wise tips. In (way too) general, know your journalist, know your story, and make a specific pitch matching the two.

Thanks to Spitzberg Advisors’ Kirstin Franko for leading the rest of the day, for AHCMC for having us, and for the all the great arts marketing pros who were there so actively participating.

I recommend their research framework "Awake to Woke to Work: Building a Race Equity Culture" to learn more about how those of us who work in and with nonprofits can proactively apply an equity lens, along with data that supports both the need and the benefits:
