One day we are all going to be old, and eventually we won’t be here anymore. And when that happens for me at least, , I want my kids to be able to look back and find me. The videos. The photos. The stories. The things I built. The places I went. The people I met. The risks I took. The things that worked and the things that absolutely didn’t.

I want them to see the whole thing. And hopefully think, “At least Dad gave it a bloody good crack.” That he followed his passion to the best of his ability. That he backed himself. That he tried things. Some things he hit. Some things he missed. But he never stopped.

Because I don’t need them to look back and think I got everything right. I just want them to know I lived it.

Almost time to head back to 🇺🇸 and honestly, after nearly a decade of coming back for some pretty incredible projects, it’s started to feel less like travelling and more like going back to the office. Every year I seem to find another reason to return, another project to build, another room to get into and another way to push the ImperfectlyPerfectCampaign ®️ further.

What started as trips for specific projects has turned into years of relationships, opportunities, incredible people and memories I never could have planned for. Plus giving my authors those opportunities too!

So yeah, Australia will always be home. But after almost a decade of LA, I think it’s fair to say the 🇺🇸 has earned second-home status. Now I just need to work out how to stop the jet lag from kicking my arse every time. 😂

I’ve clearly become a lot more blunt on social media.
And honestly, I’m completely fine with it. Because anyone who knows me knows that being blunt doesn’t mean I don’t care. Quite the opposite. I care deeply about people. I invest heavily in the people around me. If you’re someone I genuinely believe in, I’ll go out of my way for you. If you’re in my circle, heck, I’ll do anything for you.

But social media has become a strange place. I’ve spent years watching it evolve from somewhere people actually connected into somewhere a lot of people seem to be performing a version of themselves. Everyone’s an expert. Everyone’s telling you how to live your life while simultaneously trying to convince you how successful, healed, wealthy or enlightened they are. And somewhere in the middle of all that, I think we forgot how to just be human.

I’m just not interested in performance. I’ll tell you what I think. I’ll call things out when I see them. I’ll have a laugh. I’ll swear. And I’ll still care enormously about the people who matter to me or I work with. The people closest to me know that I’m fiercely loyal. ( I’m Scorpio ♏️ ) They know I’ll show up. They know I’ll help. They know I’ll celebrate their wins. But they also know I’ll tell them when they’re being an idiot.
That’s friendship. That’s honesty. That’s being human.

If you’re building something that’s going to make an impact, you better learn behavioural patterns in people. I say this when I’m delivering keynotes on social impact because you can have the greatest message in the world, but if you don’t understand people, you’ll spend half your life wondering why they behave the way they do. Watch the patterns, especially when you grow, it’s that simple.

Few simple patterns to watch….

So we know, every Tom, Dick and Bloody Harry love telling you to set boundaries. “Protect your energy.” “Learn to say no.” Brilliant. Now set those boundaries with Tom, Dick or fu**in Harry and watch the fireworks. Who fu**in knew it only applies when the boundary isn’t around them.

Next, watch what happens when people don’t get what they want from you. Until then, you were amazing. Then you say no and the fu**ing dummy comes flying out. They don’t miss you. They miss what they used to get from you. Big fu**ing difference.

Then there’s gossip. Someone starts talking about you to somebody else because they think they’re recruiting an ally. What they don’t realise is the person listening is probably thinking, “F**k me, if they’re talking about them like this, what are they going to say about me when I p**s them off?” And there’s the irony: let them gossip. They don’t just risk losing the person they’re gossiping about. They risk losing the person they’re gossiping to as well. They thought they were gaining an ally and actually gave them a fu**ing reason to keep their distance.

And why are you giving some random person your energy because they’ve said something about you? If someone genuinely knows you and there’s been a misunderstanding, they’ve got your number. They can fu**ing call you. If they don’t know you, why the hell are you letting them dictate your day?

That’s the s**t you need to understand when you’re building something. Learn the fu**ing patterns. Stop taking every reaction personally. Keep your energy for the people and the work that actually matter, because honestly, you will never be able to make huge impact for the people and causes you want to by being a push over
