Unit 74 completed their Endurance Hike this morning, covering 56 miles in 24 hours.

The Endurance Hike is one of the defining milestones of Basic Training and one of the toughest physical and mental challenges at ALERT.

Through long hours, sore feet, and hiking through the night, the men of Unit 74 pushed through and finished strong. We are proud of the perseverance, teamwork, and determination they displayed every step of the way.

We also want to recognize the alumni from Units 22, 44, 52, and 71 who returned to hike alongside Unit 74 or assist the Logistics team. Your willingness to come back and encourage the next generation speaks volumes about the brotherhood built at ALERT.

Endurance Hike

Unit 74 is currently in the middle of their 24-hour Endurance Hike. They’ll continue hiking through the night and are expected to finish early tomorrow morning.

These are some of the hardest moments of Basic Training — when the miles add up, exhaustion sets in, and perseverance matters most.

Parents, family members, and alumni — drop an encouraging comment below for the recruits as they push toward the finish line.

It's a free 7-hour day, includes a complimentary banquet meal for the candidate and up to two guests, and every candidate who attends gets a $300 voucher toward Basic Training.

The River Crossing Competition.

ALERT students compete to build a rope system, get every man across the water, tear it down, and call done. Fastest time wins.

It’s not just speed. It’s knots that hold. Communication that doesn’t break down. Trust in the man on the other end of the rope. The clock punishes any team that hasn’t actually become a team yet.

That’s why we run it. Under pressure, you find out fast who’s been sharpening each other and who hasn’t.

Not every young man leaves ALERT on the same path.

But they all leave changed—with discipline, clarity, and a stronger sense of purpose.

For parents—this isn’t about choosing your son’s future. It’s about helping him become the kind of man who’s ready for it.

About 1/3 step into emergency services.
Another 1/3 enlist.
Others pursue trades, college, and the workforce.

Different paths. Same foundation.

Alumni—drop a comment: how did Basic Training shape your direction?

You can picture what hard looks like from the outside. You can't feel it until you're standing in it.

That's the gap Basic Training closes. The pressure isn't there to break a man. It's there to show him what he's actually made of, and then build something stronger in its place.

This is the work that shapes the rest of a life.

Ask the average person what kind of God we serve, and you'll hear the same answer. A God of rules. A God of regulation.

That's not the God of the Bible. His law is a law of liberty, not a law of restriction. The boundaries that feel like they're ruining your fun are the ones keeping you alive.

At ALERT, we train students to know the God who actually is. Not the God they assumed.
