Does anyone else have a place in your house, that when you see it you just can't help but smile, and have so much gratitude for?

This is mine.
When we moved into this house this corner was an awkward place where the fridge used to sit. It had pieces of plywood covering holes in the floor, that when lifted you could see under the house.

Chris fixed the floor, installed the flooring and even though he had never built shelves before, he did it for me, and my jars. In some of these jars are just ingredients I bought but most of them have food I have made.

Salsa Verde from the green tomatoes we grew in our garden, eggs from our chickens, pickles that came from our garden, pecans that came from our neighbor, that we shelled ourself ect.

Sure we could have gone out and bought this stuff, but doing it yourself is not only way cheaper, but you know exactly what's in it.

This whole corner was made with love, dedication, and creativity. Its a bunch of little blessingings in one place, and i love it 🩷

Homemade cranberry juice in the making πŸ˜‹

Haha funny story for you all.
Canning back with my mom in 2013 we had a mishap, and had a jar of pumpkin exploded everywhere and I remember my mom getting really burned.
Well now living across the country it's my first time pressure canning without my mom.
And I had a weird mishap.
I was waiting for the valve to pop up, so I could let it vent for 10 minutes and then put the wight on.
Well when the vent popped up it popped all the way out πŸ˜‚
So I shut it all down and had to take the jars out. Fix the valve and start over. By dumping out the hot water putting in new water, and putting the jars back in.
To be honest i was terrified it was going to explode, even though my mom told me it wouldn't, so dressed like a maniac i got the jars back in the canner and nothing exploded lol.

Never a dull moment at our house and Olivia has great entertainment while homeschooling πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The jars are successfully back in the canner and finally processing. It may have taken me ALL DAY to can turkey, but I will can this turkey πŸ˜‚

Well this weekend was a first for all of us. We butchered a pig we had been raising. I've processed a lot of animals Deer, rabbits, chickens, ducks but doing a pig from start to finish was a first.

As much as I hate the dispatching process once its over we get to work. I'm beyond thankful for his life and am using every bit of him I can.

We got 65 pounds of sausage.
We saved multiple organs and processed them for our dog thats allergic to dog food.
I'm taking multiple parts of him to make into dog treats.
Rendering down a bunch of fat into lard.
Using his bones for soup, or cooking and breaking down into bone meal for the garden.
And there are some things I just couldn't use so they went into the compost bin.

This weekend was successful and providing for my family and know what my kids are eating, and teaching them valuable life skills, is an amazing feeling 🩷

We made this Rabbit colony for less than $100. Is it fancy and brand new, heck no.
Do my rabbits care? Also heck no.
They are happy living their best life, and making lots of babies for us. We reused and repurposed everything but the tarp and totes for this.

Don't get discouraged that your homestead doesn't look like other peoples. Use what you have, and if it works and didn't cost a lot of πŸ’°πŸ’°then you did it right for what you needed.

We're homesteaders not hobby farmers πŸ€ͺ
