Showers are commonly dirty with grimey "body butter" build-up. When we shower, soap residue combines with hard water creating that unique, sticky and sometimes smelly residue. What's happened is the soap and water flows down the shower walls and becomes hardened on the surfaces as it dries.
This is why we see darker or thicker build-up on the lower and flat surfaces of showers and tubs. Prevention of build-up can be done using a squeegee or drying off the shower walls and tub walls after each use along with weekly cleaning.
