Memorial Day should never become routine. It is a day to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country and never returned home. They are not just statistics, headlines, or slogans; they were individuals with families, plans, futures, and lives that were cut short in service to something far greater than themselves.

We often discuss leadership, sacrifice, courage, and commitment, but these individuals embodied those principles in the fullest sense. Their sacrifices were not made when it was convenient or visible, nor were they seeking recognition. Real sacrifice demands everything, and they gave it.

Today, I reflect on the families who continue to carry that weight long after the ceremonies conclude and the flags are folded away. May we remember them well, lead with greater perspective, and take a moment to understand that the freedoms we enjoy every day have always come at a cost paid by others.

We honor the fallen today and always.

"Beyond the endless freaking hills, the Camino reveals a deeper self discovery.

Each traveler seeks something—peace, clarity, growth or something else entirely. You can recognize the moments of ah-ha and you understand on a level never experienced before.

Each day offers a challenge (or challenges) and it also provides gifts: a smile of accomplishment after a challenging descent, a drink to quench the thirst after long miles, the sound of a church bell, indicating your are close to town. This is the give and take of “The Way”.

Some arrive into town weary, others still humming a tune, but all come together to share a meal, a story, a laugh, then go to rest, preparing to begin again the next day. And this… this is the conversation of “The Way."

Tomar is now in my rearview. Today was all about the little things—walking hills with shade as my companion, a breeze on my face, and cold water in my pack. I sang out loud, keeping a beat with my stick, and took a moment atop one of the hills to marvel at the untouched land. I’m pushing myself, step by step, moving forward into the unknown.

Have you ever visited a place and instantly felt like you were home? Tomar has been that place for me. There's something about the architecture, the people, and especially the history that resonates deeply with me.

“The Way” has a way of creating moments of profound awareness, offering exactly what you need when you need it—from a refreshing breeze in the heat to the scent of fresh fruit and the sweetness of cool water.

It also brought unexpected reflection. Saying “see you later” to my sister became a hello to a deeper friendship. For the first time, I truly saw her—beautiful, complex, loving, and hurt. It was a week of challenging perspectives and discovering a new connection with my baby sister.
