What does the next generation want from the companies they work for?

According to Tom Hering, co-founder of Benefit Corporations for Good, it’s more than a paycheck. Gen Z wants to see a purpose beyond profit — and that shift is changing the future of business.

In this clip from the Riveo Impact Lab, Tom explains why benefit corporation certification and other values-based commitments can help small businesses attract the right people, build trust and create accountability around the impact they say they want to make.

For Tom, this movement isn’t an outlier. It’s becoming mainstream — and the next generation is helping drive that change.

Small businesses may be smaller in scope, but their impact can be just as powerful.

In this clip from the Riveo Impact Lab, Tom Hering, co-founder and managing partner of Benefit Corporations for Good , shares why small business owners are uniquely positioned to create meaningful change in their communities.

From hiring locally to buying locally, small businesses help keep local economies moving — and because they can often make decisions more quickly than larger corporations, they have the ability to put values into action in real time.

The best partnerships are built on more than a project scope. They’re built on trust, shared purpose, and a commitment to creating something meaningful together.

We’re proud to partner with organizations advancing environmental stewardship, supporting immigrants and asylum seekers, empowering women entrepreneurs, strengthening education and leadership, expanding access to funding, and building more resilient communities.

From RIDEM and RIMA’s work in sustainable manufacturing, to ICDI’s support for displaced immigrants, Enterprising Women’s global community of women entrepreneurs, GISC’s transformational learning programs, Grants Office’s funding platform, and our continued partnerships with long-term clients like ICIC, GreenWeaver Landscapes, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Voices, and Catholic Charities of Broome County — these collaborations remind us why values-aligned work matters.

When we share a vision with our clients, the work becomes more than content, strategy, or production. It becomes a way to amplify impact.

What does meaningful impact look like in action?

That’s the question behind the Riveo Impact Lab podcast — a series created to explore the people, ideas, and organizations driving positive change in their communities and industries.

In 2025, we created the podcast as a space for curiosity, conversation, and connection. Each episode takes listeners behind the scenes with leaders and changemakers who are building a better future through purpose-driven work, creative storytelling, sustainable practices, and thoughtful action.

From innovative ESG initiatives to personal stories of leadership and impact, the Riveo Impact Lab highlights practical insights and real-world examples of what’s possible when values are put into motion.

For us, this podcast is more than a platform. It’s a way to learn, reflect, and contribute to a broader conversation about how businesses and individuals can create change that lasts.

Visit the Riveo Impact Lab podcast to listen to the latest episodes and hear from the leaders shaping what impact looks like today.

When small and diverse businesses are supported, entire communities grow stronger.

As a certified woman-owned business, we know firsthand how powerful it is to be part of networks that create access, connection, and opportunity. This year, that commitment showed up in meaningful ways — through our continued WBENC certification, Elin’s selection to the WBENC National Forum, our recognition as 2025 WBE of the Year for the Southern Tier region, and our ongoing involvement in the VIEW Collective, a national network of womxn in video production.

These milestones are about more than recognition. They reflect our belief that when women business owners, minority-owned businesses, and small businesses have the resources, relationships, and visibility they need to succeed, the impact extends far beyond any one company.

Through communities like WBENC and the VIEW Collective, we’re able to share knowledge, build trust, open doors, and collaborate with others who are working to change what leadership and success look like in their industries.

Because lifting as we climb isn’t just a value — it’s a responsibility.

We’re proud to be part of a larger movement of business owners who are proving that being small does not mean being insignificant. The ripple effect is real, and together, we can create meaningful change.

Behind every creative project is a set of decisions: how we communicate, how we use emerging tools, how we build partnerships, how we hire, and how we hold ourselves accountable.

That’s why governance matters.

For us, strong governance isn’t about checking boxes. It’s about building the policies, practices, and decision-making frameworks that help us operate with transparency, intention, and integrity.

This year, we focused on strengthening the systems that guide how we work — from clarifying our commitments around responsible AI use, to creating a Local Hiring Policy, to implementing a Diversity Corrective and Preventative Action plan.

These efforts may happen behind the scenes, but they directly shape how we show up for our clients, partners, and community. They help us make thoughtful decisions, protect trust, and ensure our values are reflected not just in what we say, but in how we operate.

Because responsible business starts with the systems we build — and the accountability we practice every day.

Being a good neighbor goes beyond opening your doors.

For Sabine Langer and the team at Global Cafe, community care has looked like providing meals for unhoused neighbors during Memphis winters, supporting newcomer students with clear backpacks, and helping fund a DACA scholarship at a local university.

In this episode of Riveo Impact Lab, Sabine shares how Global Cafe is using food, business, and love to create meaningful impact across Memphis.

Creating impact sometimes means stepping away from our screens and getting our hands dirty — literally. 🌱

This year, our team spent a volunteer day with VINES at the Dick Andrus Community Orchard in Binghamton, helping lay mulch and define a new walking path to make the space more welcoming and accessible.

But the day wasn’t just about physical work. We also collaborated with VINES on signage concepts that will help visitors understand the orchard’s history, purpose, and the lasting legacy of Dick Andrus — a longtime educator, gardener, and advocate for local food and environmental stewardship.

The orchard is still growing, with a vision to provide fresh food for community members in need and serve as a nursery for fruit trees and bushes across Broome County.

We’re proud to support a space rooted in community, sustainability, and resilience — and to carry forward Dick’s legacy of nurturing places where people and nature thrive together.
