The health benefits of herbs and spices are twofold and go well beyond reducing the need for extra salt by adding depth and aromatic flavors to your food. They contain phytochemicals that have powerful disease-fighting, antioxidant properties. Incorporate them into your daily cooking repertoire by mixing them into marinades and salad dressings, rubbing them over lean meats before cooking, or adding them to whole grains or veggies.

I don’t normally get excited in anticipation of receiving medical treatment—I generally feel extremely anxious instead. But, today as I drove up to get my first dose of the COVID vaccine, I felt extremely grateful and hopeful.

Grateful for all the heroes—scientists, health providers, and other essential workers—who have tirelessly worked over the last year to keep the rest of us safe and have found ways to move us forward. Today, I’m particularly in awe of the UAB team. Their impeccable organization made the process for administering doses safe and seamless.

And I’m hopeful because of our heroes’ collective works we can finally begin taking steps towards a new sense of normalcy.

Can’t wait to be able to reunite with loved ones and friends that I haven’t seen in over a year. 🙌🙌
